Between today and tomorrow
ok - the exact match kwkwkw.com isn't available. and neither is what i understand is the next best thing kw-kw-kw.com/net/org

next choices:
kw-kwkw.com/org/net/info/??
or
wordkwkwkw.com/org/net/info/??

Which way should i go? which kw combo and which tld's

.com/.net are usually preferred.... and find a new niche to rank for where you can get an exact :P makes life much easier

Many here say the hyphens don't really matter. It's probably true, but my own experience has been better with domains containing an extra word instead of hyphens. Try using "stop" words which the search engines supposedly ignore.
Stop Words

My hyphenated domains did better in Yahoo/Bing than Google. I tend to add an i or e in front of the keywords or something that makes sense after. Someone posted an awesome list of stuff like this recently, but I'm not sure where to find the thread.

Either way, I haven't seen anything but exact match get the boost everyone talks about. Gotta build a few more links to anything else.

that's interesting - i never heard of that before

i would have thought that the extra letter would mess up the search result, since how would google parse it/know what the domain really means.

ok - well i guess i will just have to go the whole route of my own testing...

Have you not ever noticed how Google highlights the keyword in a domain in the SERPs?

dog training - Google Search

That's always a pretty good illustration for these discussions, particularly because the hyphenated domain sits at the top. You'll see other sites like the dogtraininghq where G clearly knows what the domain means...of course your onsite factors surely play a part as well as your anchored backlinks.

Make sure you look past page one on that search also, so you can see what other domains, obviously optimized for the keyword, are doing. You'll also notice the exact match dot com is back on page 4.

From what I got from this topic, posted a while ago, is that hyphenated domains are fine for SEO purposes. Bad idea if you want return visitors.

For what it's worth, the #2 in a fairly competitive niche I'm working on uses multiple hyphens.

This brings up a very interesting idea- if i plan on taking the top 3 slots in a niche, it's potentially a good idea to use a memorable, relevant kw combo and then SEO-URL-friendly others.

so, i would do wonderfulbirdhouses.com and bird-houses.org, bird-houses.net as well.

Not sure if that's what you meant, but that makes tons of sense to me.

I like hyphenated domains more then .net or .org or something else, and they tend to rank well also
