I just received this message from Jon, after he locked my thread:

To Katoved.. I know you're a long time member here, but as soon as you dip into the realm of having an affiliate program, you automatically have the rules change for you, and you're not allowed to promote it on the open forum. We have a directory for these things, and we allow signature links promoting it, that's it. If it's not enough for you, pay for it just like every other affiliate program out there.

This is your first and last warning for it.

- Jon

Im sort of lost as to why the thread was closed. Whats the difference if I have a link to my affiliate offer in my signature or on the actual post. I hope this doesnt violate Jon's TOS either. Sorry if it does. I was shocked to even see the thread was closed! Please keep in mind that I do very little affiliate stuff, and I am somewhat a newb to it.

Hey dickface.. you PM'ed me apologizing and asking what you can do instead to promote it, and I told you.. so stop trying to play the innocent victim here. I clearly outlined WHY I closed it and deleted your post, and then told you what you could do about it to remedy the situation. Not sure what you don't get here buddy. Rules are rules. I will come down hard on any network, even ones I am very good friends with if they pull that type of shit. Don't agree? Too bad. Go pull it on places that like spammers of their own affiliate programs like... DP or SPF. Not here.

Im not being a dickface. I didn't even realize I was promoting it. Sorry again. This is from your new WF rules change:

"I know I said we are making rule changes, and I still have it on my huge to do list. Nothing drastic, just going to make some adjustments to things some people may overlook. Also need to redo what we consider spam to be. Affiliate networks and affiliate programs are NOT ALLOWED to advertise within the forum, so if you see an AM or someone doing so, please report the post immediately. Users can mention it, but we have a pretty seasoned team of mods on staff and we can pickup on who is really advertising and who is just a curious affiliate. The directory is there for advertising, so we want to keep that shit off of the regular forum and keep the forum information packed, not advertiser packed. Helping affiliates is allowed and encouraged, but plugging "we have this and that offer" is considered spam/advertising and is not allowed. More rules and adjustments will be posted sometime this week, and I encourage everyone to read it when it's posted so that you don't fuck up and wonder why you were issued a warning or a temporary ban when it's clearly stated in the rules. I'll give everyone a one week grace period until we start enforcing it."

This was a long post to read BTW. What happened to the grace period? How much is it to get listed in the directory Jon?

The grace period is me not banning you for a week, not to mention it's your first offense too so I'm giving you 2 more chances. Long post or not, it's your duty to read it, can't hold me responsible because you don't have the time to read my posts, but have the time to promote your affiliate program for some new site of yours.

Dude... you just broke rule #29 too.

29. You must respect forum MODERATORS and ADMINISTRATORS and are bound to follow their directions and instructions. Board moderators' decisions (including, but not limited to: editing, moving, deleting of single posts or entire threads) are final. You will accept this. Also, you will not re-edit a message that has already been edited by a moderator or the administrator out of defiance of the original edit. Please do not start post/threads like, "Why was my post deleted?", "What was wrong with my post?", "The moderators deleted my post...", etc. If your message is deleted accept it without disrespecting us. If you would like to know why then please contact us.

LOL!! My only question in all of this, is: Why bring it up on the open board? If Jon (the forum owner last I checked) already said "No", what good does it do to bitch to the peons?

I'm not bashing you, just genuinely curious as to what the thought process was behind your initial post.

And what kind of bullshit is this? You didn't KNOW you were promoting your own affiliate program in a thread that was labeled for people to signup and make money from your affiliate program?

Read first, use your common sense, then post.

Not to mention, since I outlined it for you pretty clearly on the closed thread AND in your apology PM to me afterwards about what you could do, and for some reason you still chose to make a new thread whining because you couldn't get what you wanted?

Grow up dude, and just try to act normal next time.

I didn't receive a PM back clarifying the rules. Yes, I guess I was promoting the affiliate offer on my website. I didnt think I was doing anything wrong though. This forum is primarily about internet marketing and affiliate offers. Thought it was only natural. Seeing I have been on this site for a while, and excited about my damn website, it only seemend natural.

Man this place is becoming all corporate and anal like syndk8 now? What's up with that shit? If this guy has given the forum a ton of content and ideas and has something cool to promote of his own there's no reason not to let him in my opinion other then being a cheap ass. The dude's given a lot to the forum and helped you build it Jon don't you think you can be cool and repay him by helping him out a little?

Corporate my ass.. I don't want affiliate programs being posted on the forum, how is that corporate? Going the corporate route would mean me accepting a bribe in exchange for him posting his affiliate program. Why should I give out extra tolerance when other networks would sit there and pay me to allow them to do that, and I don't even accept that? Dun dun dun...

I got a few webmaster related sites coming out soon. I'd like to tell WF about them prerelease. none of them are affilliate programs. Is it still within the rules to make a thread about them? For clarification, is it just as long as there isn't a section in the paid directory that may fit your site that makes it not okay to post about? I'm assuming that the directory may someday go beyond affiliate programs.

He can promote it in his sig.. no qualms with that. Just no threads allowed trying to promote affiliate programs on the forum. What's the problem here?

That's fine. They aren't related to acquiring affiliates, or if the site has no affiliate program, go for it. PM me first just letting me know what the nature of it is, and chances are good you'll be approved.

I approve 99% of the site requests I get on IM's and in the PM box. I want people to make their sites known to eachother, I just don't want to allow any affiliate program spam on the forum. That's all there is to it.

I actually agree with Jon. I don't want to see affiliate offers all over this forum either.
