OK, sorry for the long noobie post but here goes...

So I'm gonna try my hand at some affiliate shit. I was approved by copeac today, and I just applied to azoogle.

Some questions:

- With Copeac, why does it say SUPPRESSION DOWNLOAD REQUIRED TO VIEW CREATIVE CODE? What is the purpose of this?
Then when I click the Download link, the text file reads "Copy the following URL into your web browser to obtain the most updated suppression list..."
What is all this about and why do I feel so retarded? And what's a suppression list? lol.

- If I want to use PPC say on adwords to send traffic straight to the offer page, what DISPLAY URL should I use, and what ACTUAL URL should I use?
Stumbling around, the copeac URL's seem to look like this: Untitled Document

How can I avoid using these "this is an affiliate link" URLs when sending PPC traffic directly to the offer page?

- am I an asshat?

[edit: i figured out what those numbers and my af ID was]

To mask your affiliate links, you have a couple of options. For one, you could use mod_rewrite in your .htaccess file (if your server supports it). Alternatively, you could use a simple PHP script to redirect for you.

I believe that the latter is much better, because I am pretty sure google can follow a simple 301 redirect. You can disallow all the SE bots in your robots.txt. The script I am using actually supplies a bot with a different page than a regular user.

I find it hard to believe you couldn't find this info from searching the forums, but GL.

i am king asshat around here

display URL's are part of your ad - USE IT.
The url tells ppl where they are going, make then feel like that is where they want to go.

FreeIPods.com

is a much more appealing place to click than:

cracker.MillNicMedia.com/crazyassID345?promoID=SPAM

so consider it part of your ad and present it well.

Also be aware that others may be using the same display URL, so try to make it somewhat unique - goog will only show one ad per display url per result set.

As for you being an asshat i can't really say, but a majority of the ppl around here are asshat wearing assclowns.

The download suppression is in place to ensure our affiliates who email market are downloading the list as per CAN SPAM. Since you are not emailing the offers you do not need to download the file but you do need to click the link to unlock the tracking URL's, instead of downloading just hit cancel, the page will refresh and the links will appear. Its like magic

those are all the keywords you need to bid on.

tell me what offers they are and you can send the traffic to my page.

:D

I havent done any e-mail marketing and was also wondering about "suppresion lists," so these are list of email you cant send offers to, or the exact opposite, e-mails you must send offers to.

Suppression lists are people you cannot send email to.

And if you're thinking about doing PPC to one of those offers, think very hard about how many 50-cent clicks you'll need to purchase on adwords, and how many of those people you think will actually enter their zip/email, in order to make your buck-fifty. You'll need a different approach. Let me know if you figure one out.

How about 5 cent clicks on the content network targeting your demographic with low competition keywords? I don't know, I'm still new to all this.

5 cents on content using email and zip submits will probably not make you anything, it could be possible tho

see, there's this magical website on the internet that helps newbies.

You go to google.com (yes, it truly is magical) and you type "suppression list" and voila!
Results like:
suppression list glossary
and other magical stuff comes out.

If you find 3 things that say the same thing, then like alladin, poof!, you have the magic answer.

And once you have the magic answer, don't be asking the people here the same question.

Otherwise, very bad, bad, bad things might happen to you.

A Suppression list is a list of people wanting to be removed for that offer.

Lets say i have a list of 30million Email address there is a chance that other Email Marketers have the same emails that I have in my list. Now if you Email someone with the same offer that they have requested to be removed from the Affiliate is now going against the CANSPAM ACT. This is the reason Networks provide a suppression list for there offers so they don't have any complainers.

Running a ZipCode offer can also Lower the Quality of your list the reason these offers are run is to Obtain Optin Information so that way they can be sent more Advertising for a Certain Product. They are just collecting Full Optins from Thousands of Marketers and Creating a Huge Database with 90% Deliverability.
