Hi Guys / Gals,

What sort of criteria did you take into account when you moved from either hosted or vps to a dedi server? Was it page views / visitors / total websites or projected sales for ecomm stores?

I know its a bit random of a random Q but am trying to gauge when its best to move upwards and onwards.

If you are currently with a host who knows what they are doing, and treat their clients right, shoot them an email or phone call and ask them, they will be the best ones to answer this question whether you are needing an upgrade currently or not.

I think the first sign that it is time to upgrade is lag. Are things moving slow? Pages taking long to load or functions taking longer than usual? That may be the sign to upgrade (or backup because a system failure may be imminent)

yea I mean how is your server load etc? Their's certain tall tell signs that give you a reason to upgrade, I personally would never use anything other then my own dedi. If you're looking for a fast reliable dedi PM me and I can give you the contact info to the guy I use.

Yeah, usually it's just resources getting used up or getting pushed close to their limits before someone upgrades... or if they THINK that they will shortly, it's a good time to upgrade before a big spike that could cause possible downtime.
