Is my ad placement bad?

Well, I think it's okay but I think it's just about quantity - I think I need more ads on my site? Link is in my signature.

I pretty much have a click through rate of like 1.5-2%. Not great, would hope to have at least 5%.

What other place would be best to stick ads on my site? I want to make some actual income out of AdSense..

Thanks.

Yes I am? I want to aim for a consistent 5%+ CTR, so I need to make them more appealing.

I also think you need more ads. Try putting a small ad under the search bar or at the bottom of your site.

STFU

OP

Why are you using a that ad size? switch to a 300x250.

Also try rocking your own ads, I would put a massive 300x600 there with a workout supplement or P90x or something relevant.

Then try 5-10 ads and see if you can get a better CTR and better CVR rate, you will most likely make more money this way.

as nice as it is to make your ads unobtrusive by putting them in a nice box out of the way, you're basically working against the whole idea of advertising. Of course, this does depend on your goals with the site - will this site be a labour of love, somewhere you want users to come back to, or will this be a site designed to make money?

You need your ads to be noticeable, they need to be slap bang at the top of your content, and make sure to split test images and bright colours for text. (some times images get better CTR, sometimes text does).

With adsense you have the ability to split test, so make sure you do it.

I would definitely stick your own ads first of all, as the other person mentioned, at the top above the fold. At least some 300x250 blocks at the top of all content pages.

You should be able to hit 5% CTR normally, but definitely try out for some male muscle CPAs first.
