i had brought a new script to use, with which i can track my adgroups and their performance (see other thread).

well, i have now exported the first resultset to play a bit with the data.

i was very surprised then to see, that someone from 72.14.199.75 was querying exactly my searchterms and hitting exactly my ads 30 times in 1 minutes and 37 seconds :)

turns out, that 72.14.199.75 is google.com and obviously it is some google bot checking my kewords and adgroups.

anyone has a clue, what google is exactly looking for during these runs? sure there must be more behind it than just them checking whether the target-url exists.

Depending on how you set things up they are likely checking your landing page.

If you are using dynamic urls for each keyword then it is going through each one at a time.

i see. but do we know, for what they use the data they gather other than checking for correct url's?

in other words: could cloaking be used to get a better qs than the real landing page would get?

e.g. most landing pages from providers suck in terms of keyword density or use of targeted keywords. hence the need to design your own. but naturally all landing pages are limited when it comes to covering a broad range of keywords.

so, all it would theoretically need would be a keyword-optimised page to trick the google bot into thinking that you have a high qs page and hence providing you with a low cpc?

Same thing happened to me too last week... I got 17 clicks from a google ip on my ads... was about a website I even forgotten I had google ads on... I freaked out and removed the ads... gave me only 2-3 cents/click...

you got it all wrong. we are talking about adwords here and not adsense.

prepare for some problems coming your way, if you got 17 clicks from one ip on your adsense ads coming from google, lol.
