Several of my top competitors are pushing heavy volume on google content/display and I'm confused..

Why the fuck haven't they ditched adwords and gone direct?

I know most of the sites they are targeting would probably want outrageous cpms but still I would think they could show them the numbers and it would work out better for both parties.

Am I missing something here?

/completely fucking confused.

less difficult to run questionable content through gdisplay/exchanges/DSPs for aforementioned exchanges than direct with reps who want full-capability logins to look at ALL your creatives (hi rodale) ??? you'd be surprised.

in b4 someone says i have no fucking clue what i'm talking about :485:

I see what you're saying but I would think you'd be able to show them screens of your shit already running on their site..

Then again I'm just getting started with media buys maybe I haven't dealt with enough chimps yet to fully understand.

mpbiz, how long have you seen your "top competitors" on those placements? might give a better idea

The top dog has been dominating the same sites and placements for at least 16 months now. He'll throw in fresh creatives every 4-5 weeks.

Seriously, and every time I start scoping out some new sites he's pretty much dominating the inventory there as well.

The only thing I can think of is that it would be easier to run everything through one interface instead of trying to set up all these different direct buys..

The only reason I'm so intrigued by this is because of google's rep with affiliates and I don't understand why anyone would still want to risk building a business with them.

That's also the reason why I'm trying to dive into direct buys.

Running a G display ad at your will and doing a direct media buy with prepay for $XXXX makes all the difference. If the buy doesnt do any good, you loose the money but in case of content network you can pull ur ads as and when u want it.

IMO alot of sites dont want the hassle and wont go direct..

That is correct. Way too many of them don't know how to organise that "buy" for themselfs. And most important - don't want to. People are lazy and stupid, that's why we profit on CPA:)

You missed the point..

If someone's been targeting the same sites and placements for a year or more then there is no risk at all with the direct buy.. because you already know that site converts.

Both of you are clueless fucks.

No YOU missed the point.

It's the SITE OWNER who don't want to go direct. They are too lazy to switch out the code on their site or don't want to deal with the hassle of dealing with the buyer.

1. They don't do direct buys and are afraid to get into it

2. They've tested different avenues of getting these views and G is either the easiest/cheapest/only option

3. They are a little ignorant and just don't know about direct buys
