What to offer back on this media buy?

I've just got a reply back from a guy running a christian-oriented website regarding a media buy, and was thinking of running Christian dating on it.

I was mainly just looking to get my feet wet in media buying, I'm currently advertising mainly on plenty of fish. I don't wanna spend too much on this though.

It get 15k uniques a month, 11k of which are from the US, and 190k impressions. He's currently running google content network on it. He said he'd be willing to switch that 160x600 spot for mine for $75 a month, but I reckon this is too high, especially when the unique:hit ratio is that low. Any suggestions on what to offer?

Do you reckon it'd be less since according to Quantcast, it's 50:50 male:female, so difficult to target dating offers? (or possibly worth running a different offer?)
 
Bro, $25 or $75; it's all petty cash. Just drop the $75 and see what happens. If you convert to some extent, then work out a better deal for the following month based on your ROI.

OR

Talk him into a 1 week run for like $20. Will give you a decent idea of what to expect.
 
as ^^ he said, convince him that you want to test his traffic for a week or so. Drop $20 on it and see if it converts, better than wasting $75 outright
 
Why not just test it through GDN and go direct if it looks good? I'm sure it'd save you a lot of arse-ache in the short term.

Don't be a pussy. Worrying about $75/mo spend here-or-there is "doing-it-wrong". If this cocksucker only gets $75 worth of traffic per month, why are you talking to him? Even if your ROI on this buy is an amazing >=1,000% (TEN TIMES YOUR MONEY), you're still shucking taters and washing tables in the big IM foodchain. Work on deals that can pan out better over time, like exchanges and PPV networks; if you wake up one day and find your campaign to be even slightly profitable, you can just crank up the spend, instead of waiting for this asshole to post a new vlog just so traffic goes up a sad 5% today.

If you're REALLY interested in doing direct buys with smaller sites, gambling $50/mo here and $75/mo there and looking for small returns, then good luck, I cannot stop you. But I can point and laugh.

Fair enough. Since $75 is still close to a days earnings though, I'll shoot for $30. I'm game for whatever he offers though, if he doesn't accept that, I'll take the $75.

I don't think it's worth testing for a week, tbh. I think I'll do it as testing for a month, and offer him prepay on 3 months if it works out.

Good point. Main point of this isn't to make money so much, more to just experiment with media buys, and how I can make them perform compared to say, plenty of fish. I might then expand and possibly do one with a media buy network I found, where I can get $0.03 CPM on a 250x250 with a whole load of traffic.

debating over 15k unique site...take avg expected ctr current CR and figure out if 75 is too much...

but debating on 75 and .03 cpm...

Everyone's gotta start somewhere. But I agree, just suck it up and be prepared to lose $75. In fact, worst case you're still probably bound to make back at least some of it. If it doesn't work out, then forget this guy and move on.

Wha? Which advice was that? I generally agreed with what everyone said, it's just I agreed with .hack in that it's not worth throwing $75 at it, $30's more reasonable. I have no problem with throwing money at a media buy, it's just throwing money at it for no reason is pointless. $75 is close to a day's earnings, I'm not gonna waste that on some crappy blog. I'll throw the $30 at it though.
