Is It Worth It To Get A Bookkeeper?

For those of you have a bookkeeper...

1. Why is it worth hiring one vs. using Quickbooks to do it yourself?
2. Is yours local or overseas?
3. What is the usual cost?

I have some records myself that I need to reconcile and have been seriously thinking about just handing the whole thing over to someone else to do it for me.

I always do this stuff myself...but I should hire a bookkeeper. I would definitely hire local - someone who could come in the office. And with this economy, you can find a qualified number cruncher for $20-30/hr tops.

A good "bookeeper" can show you tips and tricks to save money and operate much more efficiently than you can on your own.

Even if you don't use one regularly, I would highly suggest that you pay an accountant at least for a overall consulation to get your books in order and provide tips on ways to streamline your operations going forward.

If you pick the right one you will be AMAZED at the small things you can do that will pay big dividends going foward.

I have a bookeeper that comes in once a week. 30/hr. Very efficient, and is here for about 2 hours. I just leave all the paperwork on her desk. Comes in, does her work and leaves. Totally worth it in my opinion. Keeping track of your books is very important. Especially expenses for tax time.

Exact same here, except mine is a few states away and $50/hour with 5 hour retainer per month. (includes phone calls and all that jazz)

As everybody said, it will definitely benefit you to look for a bookkeeper if you have no experience in the accounting field. I personally do my own books but that is simply because I've learned how to do them from my mother and through multiple accounting classes.

mine is local $300 per month to cut checks and handle everyhing i send to him every wednesday for a friday report...for me, i would only trust local
