Hi all!
Do domains with dash (-) give some effects in SEO?
For example,

How the different between cheapgolfball.com and cheap-golf-ball.com in term of seo?

Lets say i want to rank for "cheap golf ball" keyword, which domain name give more effects in SEO as well as rankings, with dash or no dash?
Thanks in advance!

Only com/net/org with no dashes get the "emd boost" (which was "tuned down", but will never disappear).

I agree with what handrewrites said...
^^ source?

Its been happening for over a year, but the recent Panda update really brought out the complaints from people with hyphenated domains. I think the biggest devaluation (NOT a penalty) of hyphenated domains is for those with more than two hyphens.

It looks like a minor factor to me. One of my keywords I'm targeting with a new site in a fairly competitive niche is owned by a

word--word.com domain.

So I started checking his other sites, and sure enough almost all of them are
word-word-word.com domains and he is ranking for almost all of his main keywords.

It's a factor, but these days it looks like its a small factor. Get your keywords in your domain, and aim for a .com. Then spend your time working on the factors that clearly do matter.

While I'm pretty sure the emd-boost exists, I'm even more certain that it's only "powerful" for near-zero competition keywords. It is merely one of the most significant on-page seo factors, and becomes pretty damn insignificant in the presence of any competitive backlinking. How else does a squidoo lense rank above backlinks.com for "backlinks"?

I've also found that the supposed immunity of emd's to anchor text over-optimization penalties is untrue - one of my emd's is in -950 limbo after less than 10 high-pr links with the same exact-match anchor.

I have plenty of hyphenated domains ranking well. They are fine as long as they are not too long (spammy)
