How the average internet user can teach you SO much.

BUMP haha I just had to re-start this thread with a new story.

So earlier today I was working on my computer when my 8 year old cuz came over and within like 2 minutes she wanted to use the computer I was working on, so naturally thinking she was only 8 she wouldn't know much about computers so I said "Sure here I'll open a game for you", she said "No I could do it", so I thought it would be funny to watch her try, that was about the same time I remembered about this thread and my mind began to work so I let her sit down at the computer and I stood behind her just to see if she could figure it out.

WELL HOLY FUCK.

At only 8 she finds firefox on the desktop, pops it up, clicks on the address bar, types in pbskids.com, clicks enter, finds a game and starts playing like it was easy as one, two, three.

Now that might not seem like much to you all but seriously at only 8 she types faster then some 40 and 50 year olds do, my dad who is 45 still asks me what I mean when I say type this address into the address bar. Most people who use a computer at work don't have the mindset to figure out what she did haha.

I thought it was funny as hell that the next generation at only 8 years old can use the internet better then most adults I know of.

Yeah I can believe that..some of the myspace kids really know how to work the web but then others are totally lost.

Why do you guys get bother when you see friends or family clicking ads. If you keep bashing them they'll start a campaign against affiliates and staret to tell all their friends who tell their friends who tell their friends then suddenly your conversion ratio drops.

I say teach what to click but don't bash te ads or insult them for making somebody some money. Heck I wouldn't even educate them on the subject. It's none of their business

I've actually watched my girlfriend click like crazy on some arbitrage sites and I just thought it was funny so I told her that she's making the websites money. She doesn't really know what I do, so I used that as an example and she was all impressed. :D

hmm you've got a really good point their....time to start telling people exactly where to click....(On my ads haha)

Well Aequitas, with your post I think I made an interesting observation. Your 8 year old cousin seems to know how to work the computer much better than older adults, because she lives in the technology age or whatever the fuck you want to call it. Is our world of online marketing with Adsense and what not going to die in around 30 years or so when all of the old people die off and now all thats left is a bunch of people that actually know what they're doing? Hopefully internet marketing will evolve by then, but if it doesn't, I think we're screwed...

Good question

It won't die because you will still have those who are not as computer savy as the rest. You will have a larger customer base though as more and more people will be using the internet more and more in the future. I think marketing will just evolve right along with everything else.

I agree that some business might be taken away but I think it'll actually improve because with more people becoming internet savvy, it means that more people are becoming comfortable buying things online, and they are more likely to spend more online in the coming years because they know more and trust the internet more.

However I can definatly see it having a possible negitive effect on your Adsense ads, with more internet savvy people we wouldn't want all of them to just stop clicking on the ads because they know the webmasters are making the money.

Who knows maybe we'll being to see lower CTR for adsense which may in turn bring down our advertising costs on these networks and maybe if more people begin to buy more online our Affiliate products will start to take off more because we can harness the lower cost for advertising those products haha.

Our 4 year old can do that. LOL It's a battle for computer time here. They (ages 4 and 5) share a laptop, but it's not always pretty... Darned kids these days. If they can read, they can type, and if they can type, they can get online - and it's all downhill from there! :)

I tried to explain the basics to them I used terms like Pay-Per-Click and Affiliate marketing, they just didn't get it, so now when someone asks me what I do at home all day long I just reply with "Nothing at all".
lol, this is my reality every day. At first I tried to explain, but nobody was getting it, so now I can't be arsed.

i picked this up 4 yrs before and thank you for sharing it :)
