How did he do it?

I'm just a stupid newb, but wouldn't it be easier to set this up on one or two, or even 50 domains. Like an about.com setup? Just have adsense and affiliate link riddled pages about everything, all interlinked and get directory links to each individual article page?

Wouldn't the Google bot like that better than all these one page, two paragraph auto-generated sites?

I'm probably stupid for even asking this, but I just don't have the money to spend on 2,000 domain names. Even if they are 99 cent .info names. I guess I could do like 200 a month, but wouldn't it be easier to group them on one wordpress installation?

Well, you can look at freelance websites, especially targeted on people in eastern europe (poland/ukraine/bulgaria/etc.) or india. You can post a job/project and then people can bid and thus lower the price. Like here: GetAFreelancer.com - Research in Internet for Eastern Europe

If someone needs some info about web sites in ex yugoslavia (Croatia, Bosnia, serbia, Montenegro), just pm me. That part of world is so shitty when talking about internet, but they'll blow anything. Last year they opened blog service (first one in Croatia) and almost 100.000 people signed.

Is there any downfall of using Blogger blogs instead of wordpress?

The issue of control is probably the first in mind. You are not in control of your site. Blogger owns it. They can close it or they can do other changes that might impact you. This control issue came up when Blogger started killing SOME (not all but enough to cause a ruckus) adult blogs a while back.

since these renew at normal price, what is advantage of going with a .info over .com ? is it simply the bigger selection. i mean if we are going to sit and let these age, wouldn't .com be better or is having killer keywords in domain name better? or just not renew domains not pulling their weight?

The GoDaddy domains renews at the price you buy it. If you look at the FAQ page linked from their special/bulk page, you'll see they specially mention it. According to it, if you buy a domain now at $0.99, you'll only pay $0.99 in 10 years time for the renewal, unless their price went up. In that case, according to the page, your increase will only be the same as their cost increase.

But it's a special. Their price will go up as soon as the special is over... don't know if that means the domains will renew at .99 or not. Who cares. If you're not making 8.88 a year to cover the cost of a domain I really don't see how this would be profitable.

I don't know how they work re: special price renewals (don't have a domain I bought on a special from them long enough to have it renew), but I found the page I mentioned above. You can read it here.

the only exceptions would be if the price the registry charges us increased, or if you took advantage of a limited-time, special price.

and for the .99 cent deal:

i would be very surprised - but if a domain is only pulling in $9/year, i guess let it go? i wonder if a mini site on a .com would be better since we are actually taking some time to get links.

Does Google ban sites just cause the content is a little thin? Or are you guys doing something that would upset The Google?

I'd love to see an update on this post/thread in the coming months.
Interesting stuff, just read through the post and this entire thread. I've toyed with this idea alot, of course it comes down to the sheer work involved in setting it up (i like to do everything myself....)

Do you think you'd see worse, same or better results by putting affiliate links on these sites instead of adsense?

Hmm, thanks guys. With these sites only expected to earn around $25-30 a year I need to find a good balance between quality content (for SEO) and cheap ass prices. And how do I know these guys aren't just going to copy and paste an article, or switch around a few words?

But if youre only earning $25 a year per site, what about hosting fees?
