Another Blogger question

First of all I have too many little projects going and made it a point recently to run with the ball on the one I have going that to me shows the most promise. I took a "gurus" advise a while back and started a blog on a subject that I am knowlegable on. In this case. I am a former Internet Manager at a car dealer and chose to write articles on the inner workings of a car dealership to benefit the consumer. While this is no new concept I know. After some searching I just didn't feel it was something the market was saturated with. It is a Blogger blog and a few months old now with 25 or so pretty decent sized articles. I read mixed info regarding blogger blogs. Mostly in regards to having your own domain or it will never get seen by any search engines. Besides the unique domain and the fact that blogger essentially owns your content, are there any other drawbacks to blogger? I did see a blogspot addy with content similar to mine on page two of google that has not had any entries for years. If I were to use the same hyphenated keywords he has in his blogspot addy and flipped them around. Would it get me in the same game as the other guy? I just need to get one of these damn projects off the ground for once. Thanks

Bloggers can actually be quicker to rank sometimes because they're on an authority domain, so it's not a downside in that respect. But you have to think whether you wrote those articles with keywords in mind and if they had solid amounts of content to them... these things are important. If you did, then you also need to build backlinks to those articles. They're not just going to rank on their own unless they're extremely uncompetitive terms.

Seconding this fully. Blogger is not only an authority site but, way better, it is owned by Google. Therefor... love it is :-)

What you want to do is optimize your articles SEO style for them to get recognized. Run a "Google Adwords Keywords Tool External" search. Find out what those keywords are that relate to your niche and go implement them smartly into your articles: headline, title, article body, tags

Do both of them, Also add in some sort of social media campaign like twitter or facebook fanpage. With twitter you can basically get a huge following cause there are a lot of people out there that own cars and would like to know the ins and outs of car dealerships. Then when you have your content you can tweet the link of the article on your blog and get some instant traffic. Keep building your twitter account.

I have used Blogger blogs in the past and to be honest I haven't had any trouble ranking them so I don't see that being a problem here either. I would look at the competitors articles and see how search engine friendly they are. As long as you build links, maybe post some of your articles on Web 2.0 sites such as Squidoo (you could make a great lens for your niche) you should be raising in the ranks fine.

My Blogger blog was hanging out on the third page, and I solved it by dropping the keyword I was aiming for into every post at least once (in fact, usually ONLY once or twice), and then posting almost daily. It clawed it's way up the rankings pretty quickly and now is usually #2 or #3.

A little bit of activity and SEO can go a long way.

That's right, consistancy goes a long way. If the other guy hasn't had any entries in years and he's on PAGE 2. you now with a little extra work it won't take you long to be on page one and probably within the first few listings. Don't forget to add relevant pictures with keyword title tags.

Points well taken. Thank you very much for the advice. I have been going back through and sliding in my keyword(s) into articles and still keeping them look well written. I have both Twitter and FB accounts to promote the site. They still have not picked up much momentum yet but I will keep trying. I have been submitting new site maps daily if need be with the addition of new content. I am keeping an eye on its rank under the keyword I am targeting. I will give any updates as I see them. Thanks again!

I did end up changing to a keyworded url that I thought was a better fit. I don't know if it was the changes I have made this week but I did find that I am showing up on page 2 of Bing under a fairly long and obscure keyword phrase. It's a start. I'll take it. :)

Good for you! Page 2 is nothing to sniff at - keep pluggin' away and you'll be on page 1 before you know it. Keep us posted on your advances.
