I've been doing this for years, and publishers were always cool with me doing it, they have restrictions on PPC ads, but never had any issues with SEO.

Recently I came across a publisher who basically forbade me to seo on their trademark terms. Which I found really odd.

Can they actually screw me for targeting [produce name] + reviews using SEO?

I have a good opportunity to get to #1 for this term, and would have been a nice source of high converting traffic, and have several other products and services + reviews kewords as #1 and they're fantastic 1/10 convert.

I may have blown my chance with this publisher because I already emailed them asking can I do ^^? and they said they've passed it onto programme managers to get clarification.. So this one I have probably blown it because I've already given them a statement of intent which can fuck me up later if they decide to change their minds, so I'm not going to pursue it.

I would have had plausible deniability before I emailed them, I could have said, "I dunno these look like organic links to me.." But right now I dont have that out if shit hits the fan.

Any way you can cloak your traffic? but shit if any of their AM's Google the keyword and find your site you're nuked.

IDK man, let's see what their reply is.

cloaking? im pretty sure they closely monitor their [brand name + reviews] in google all the time. Would be like trying to screw them from right under their nose.

Yeah, since they track all those keywords they'll probably find you sooner/later and that'll be the end of it. They'll just not pay you.

You could always do a review of the product vs. competitors product and then pitch the traffic towards the competitor (who would probably have a more open mind).

Yeah they can't pursue any legal action against you if you rank for their brand name. If they try just say "contact Google, their the ones responsible for the search results." Since their being dumb I would rank for their name and promote a competitors product and see if their tune changes once you start sending traffic elsewhere.
