Hey everyone,

Just wondering if anyone is having much success with bidding on competitor keywords, i'm doing affiliate marketing in the financial sector (debts) and i've tried bidding on various competitors but none are converting into leads, my guess is, the people clicking the ads are dissapointed or confuesed when they see my website and realise it's NOT what they searched for. Having said that, many affiliates who i'm working with have told me that they're converting the majority of their leads on competitor keywords.

How can I make these keywords work for me? I was thinking about trying things like..."Alternative to COMPETITOR" or "Sites like "COMPETITOR", just wondering if anyone has any tips on how to make competitor keywords work for you...obviously they drive alot of traffic...

Cheers,

Damn right.

You need a compelling title though & a reason to choose you over the competitor.

i.e. are you cheaper? Are you giving something free away?

You want to at least be capturing email addresses so that if they don't buy from you you can still follow up with them later & build a relationship.

Give an example of an ad you would run on a competitiors keywords.

Clearly you are not meeting their expectations. If that is the case, it is likely your ad text that needs to be changed.

Interesting, well i've been using dynamic keyword insertion for the titles, so whatever they search appears in the ad, e.g "Churchill Finance" or whatever. I'll have a play around with my ads and let you know the results.

Haha, well yeah that's one idea...but I don't want to get a bad name for myself or any hassle from them! Do you think something like that would?

It's not just that

Google can stop that adText.
I have a travel related campaign right now and I'm bidding on some of the competitors keywords. My problem is that I'm getting 0 clicks on the SE but 20 clicks a day on the Content Network.

Do you mean competitor's brand name bidding?
That could be highly targeted.
