so looking to ramp up my cardio workouts and curious what kind of routines you guys are using? I guess what I am wondering is what kind of mix between time and equipment is typical for you? Now I realize 70% of the guys here have a cardio routine of 10,000 keystrokes and 30000 mouse clicks per day. But I know we have some fitness buff's here so curious to hear what you guys are doing....

If I were going to do cardio it'd be kettlebells or more sprinting. If anyone tells you to do the p90x cardio routine (day 2), it's fucking terrible, avoid at all costs.

I do 45 minutes to an hour on the elliptical in the morning keeping my heart rate to as close to 165 bpm as possible the whole time, burns about 600 - 800 calories. Elliptical is also very good for doing interval training/sprints. You can go as hard as you can for a minute, then rest, hard as you can, rest. Easy way to mix things up. Then at night I hit weights for about 45 minutes to an hour, which I estimate another 300 calories.

Insanity. Its worth the money if you like cardio. Its fun and challenging... and the hardest thing I have ever done, and I run 5 miles a day and do P90X.

HIIT is the best both for fat loss and for improving your health/endurance, but fuck if it doesn't suck. Unless you enjoy gasping for air, that is.

Otherwise I'd just do something fun like UG suggested and play basketball, or maybe ride a bike or go for a jog or something. Treadmills and ellipticals are extremely boring imo.

Insanity cardio mixed with P90X. The cardio sessions are about 45 minutes and you will get an amazing workout.

ugh. Just lift weights. You will burn calories long after your workout.

If you must do cardio, jump rope or swim.

At 45 minutes, you're starting to burn muscle in addition to fat. I'd stick with 30-35 minutes. 165 also seems a little high. Your fat burning zone is probably more around 130-150 bpm depending upon your age.

Spinning class sounds kinda gay but it is good to get pressured a little to keep going. Plus the 100 pound women trainers in there are relentless.

Google Tabata workouts.

4 minutes on an airdyne and i guarantee you will be suckin air.

BJJ/Wrestling is also great. roll with a guy bigger than you and I guarantee you will push yourself harder than a workout and improve your gas tank.

Cardio I run anywhere between 1-3 miles at the moment.. Soon I'll ramp that to 5+, and then eventually run another half marathon. Ran one 2 summers ago, I was 189 then, 210 now.. Got some weight to lose.

At this point with my fucking shoulder fucked up, lower back fucked up, I still lift heavy in the gym but not trying to become Arnold or some shit.. I'll save that for 5-7 yrs down the road.

I always plan on lifting and running at the gym, but I can't pass up a basketball pick up game so I end up just playing that for 2-3 hours.

i do Starting Strength and run for 30 minutes to an hour on days that I don't lift weights. i wonder if i should be doing sprints and tougher cardio shit besides just long-distance runs.

not doing cardio

do you even health?

High intensity weight sessions give as much cardiovascular exercise as running, and due to the way muscles rebuild, burn more calorie over time. Running and other traditional cardio in combination with weights actually reduce this effect, as more energy is being used at the moment of cardio exercise.

Of course if you think cardio is how to lose weight, I have some acai pills that work wonders.
