Hi all,

First post and I'm about as noob as you can get regarding IM.

1) Is it significantly harder to make money from a website that doesn't sell anything directly or target a specific niche? For example, I have an idea for a website sort of along the lines of the Fuck My Life site. So it's a site for people to come and be entertained by the content. Would banner ads and maybe some brand related merchandising (ie shirts with the site logo) be the way to go with a site like this?

2) Do issue sites have $ earning potential? Are there affiliate managers who target these sorts of niches? By issue site i mean (for example) a website designed to critique and promote the end of nuclear power.

Thanks for any help.

All traffic is profitable. You can slap CPM ads on a FML type site or sell them a "How not to suck at life" ebook.

Send me my share when you are a millionaire.

I did and thanks ruckfules. If I start making some decent $ I'll send you a consulting fee. I appreciate it, thanks. :costumed-smiley-087

Especially if you're just starting out, you need to find a SPECIFIC NICHE with affiliate / cpa content targeted SPECIFICALLY towards that niche.

You cannot make a site broad like "fuck my life"... It'd take you years to get quality repeat visitors at a level high enough to monetize.. start out small and something that is geared towards specific things... like black dating, dog training, a SPECIFIC type of diet, etc.

Also, ending a nuclear power.. not any ebooks / affiliate materials on that, I would suggest not to get into something like that at this time.

You can search for things to promote using offervault or clickbank... If it's available and being promoted there, people are actively interested in it.

create digital wares to sell/download for your customers .. sounds like you're going to end up going off the beaten path which means that no network will exist that can serve your needs.

General interest 'lol' sites are easier to spread socially, but a bitch to monetize without a lot of traffic, which also means more robust hosting requirements, so as a 1st attempt, go with the mainstream advice and target small specific 'user intends to part with cash' niche.

Okay I went ahead and bought 3 domains. I'm going to get one more for my tracking. I also got web hosting.

So... this will now be my catch all noob question thread. Thanks in advance to any who are willing to suffer my dumb questions.

Should I set up my domains on the hosting right away or should I wait until I have content? I will be writing the content and should have at least 2 500 word blurbs for each site by Monday and intend to keep adding from there. Should I be writing or setting up the websites first? In case it's unclear, I'm asking because I'm wondering about the impact of say google indexing my site while it has no content.

Thanks again.
