Wow, to think that beneath the inane posting there was an intellectual trying to break free.

Don't let society hold you back in your literary pursuits Pewep.

Shut the fuck up, you want me.

I guess I'll be the first person in history to say the books fuckin sucked. I didn't read them all but the ones I did read contained waaaaaaaaaay tooooo much detail on family histories and names.

I like a book where something fucking happens, not one where 90+% of it is literally spent on genealogy - fantasy genealogy at that!

When shit happened, it was epic, but who has the time to wade through that much bullshit just to get to the good stuff.

The show on the other hand is a great balance of genealogy and epic shit that's actually happening.

Books 3-4 of A song of fire and ice drag.

Book 5, from what I'm told, does the entire series justice.

The books are way better than than the show, but obviously they have to appeal to all the TV sheeple. If you enjoyed ASOIAF try reading the Malazan Book of the Fallen series. I struggled getting through the first book due to lack of out of the gate backstory, but once through it the rest are great.

book 2 blew imo but was still pretty good. book 3 is fucking epic, especially towards the end.

Sounds a lot like the way Victor Hugo wrote. Ever read The Hunchback of Notre Dame?

Hugo spent something like 75 - 100 pages describing the streets of Paris, then the same amount of space describing the cathedral. You can skip those chapters and not miss a thing. Hunchback was a great story and a great read, once you realize you don't need to read all that crap about the architecture and streets of the city.

Just skip parts that are just boring background noise.

BTW, if anybody enjoys historical fiction, check out Pillars of the Earth and it's sequel World Without End by Ken Follett. Might I also suggest the Shogun series by James Clavell

awesomest book of all time. I recommend it, every time anyone asks me. Even did it twice in this forum.

Also, I will repeat:

Borgias.

Fucking watch it!

DO it now!!!

I strongly disagree with that statement Mike, especially when looking at A Song of Ice and Fire. The thing about Martin is that if you miss even a single page or paragraph that you think isn't important, you're going to have a hard time figuring out the motivation of certain characters, especially since the entire world has a very intricate and genuinely fascinating history.

Now Wheel of Time does the same thing but it's much, much worse. I couldn't stand how much Robert Jordan would digress from the plot and especially book 8 and 9 were pretty tough to go through.
