With all of this talk about gun control after the most recent shooting spree, it would seem like a worthwhile endeavor to look at how well it's worked out for our tea drinking buddies across the pond. Gun control in the UK is considered the most restrictive in the world, as it turns out, they are also the most violent country in the world.

If you're wondering why the United States isn't on the chart, it's because the US doesn't even rank in the top 10 for violent crime. The most recent numbers show the US has a violent crime rate of 466 per 100,000 residents. The funniest part of that number is that the majority of that is in cities with the most restrictive gun laws in the US like Chicago, NY, DC etc. The areas of the US with open carry laws have negligible violent crime rates.

It's too bad that law abiding citizens in the UK aren't allowed to own guns so they could protect themselves and bring these ridiculous violent crime rates under control.

Come on Britfags, you guys really need to get all of this Ultra Violence under control...

Just playing devil's advocate, but the US locking up everyone before they have a chance to commit an actual violent crime may have something to do with it.

But I keep seeing some statistics that US has sometime like "N" times the number of gun related crimes or killings compared to the country with the second highest. (forgot what N was, more than 10 for sure)

I am Totally Anti-Gun-Control so I just want to know what that statistics mean.. The one where US has the highest gun related violence or something..

My country also has one of the strictest Gun Laws, but Gun crimes are I guess second to none, because, YEP.. all the criminals have guns...

And what happens to the rankings if you change "Violent Crime" to "Homicide"?

I'm pretty sure a lot of things fall under violent crime. If you punch someone while you're drunk that's a violent crime.

Simple fact: Criminals disobey laws by definition. If they want to rob or rape you, they'll get a gun. And if they can't get a gun, they'll get a knife. If they can't get a knife, they'll get a bat and so on. Laws only work on the law abiding.

Is this an attempt to somehow soften the fact that your own countries residents frequently melt down and go on shooting rampages in schools?. I'm sorry, but maybe it'd be a good idea to actually try and solve the problem, rather than make a response like "But we're not as bad as them!!!"... it hardly justifies your position.

I've lived in both the UK and the US - and other countries, and to say the US is safer, is fucking laughable. Try actually living in places before posting infographics made by college students.

Heres another list of violent crime rates which states something completely different...... maybe we should base all our opinions on that.... ? Even wikipedia has the US listed way higher than the UK, and in all of the 10 or so sites i checked, everyone of them had the US in a higher position.

Isnt it a joy to have the freedom to selectively choose what we think based on what we actually want to hear.

Your link is for TOTAL crimes, not per capita crime rate. Of course the US has more total crimes because the population is 5x higher, but if you break it down per capita the UK is significantly more violent. If you read the chart on the page you linked to it says the US had 11,877,218 reported crimes with a population of 311,591,917, whereas the UK had 6,523,706 reported crimes with a population of 62,641,000.

Why you mad though? You seem very aggressive - you must have spent a little too much time in the UK.

Something tells me that "Maps of World- We do magic to Maps" is not the most trustworthy source for this information. Especially because in the first paragraph they say
"The crime-rates map shows the world top ten countries with the highest reported crime rate. This map tells us about the number of crimes that took place per 100,000 people."
yet the stat for America is 11,877,218. That's 118 crimes per person. Don't believe everything you read on the internet, especially when there's 30 fucking ads plastered on the site.

I lived in London for 5 years and when someone gets shot in in the UK, it makes the national news - even if it wasn't fatal. That's how rare it is.

The culture over there may be more violent, but even though you have a higher chance of being involved in violence you have way less chance of dying from it.

Even when someone is stabbed it makes national news.

The image from the op looks like its from the daily mail which is our Fox News equivalent. Sickipedia is a more reliable source of facts than the daily mail.

LOL no it's not. It will make local news but there won't be no major coverage of it, unless there's something special about it.

Also that image, is made from the following source: Conservatives, EU Commission, UN. Even say's it on the image.

Do you find it hard to comprehend we have a stupid amount of crime?

I suppose you forgot to read...... the very first paragraph on that website, which says:

"This map tells us about the number of crimes that took place per 100,000 people. "

Of course, to expect you to actually read a source when you've already formed your opinion, based on another, equally uncredible source i admit, would be silly. Which leads me to my next point:

Ding Ding we have a winner.

Thats my entire point. You can grab stats from 1000 different places which all say 1000 different things. The credibility of each source is normally as reliable as their political / demographic stance..... most places skew their results to please their demographic, it surprises me that a forum full of internet marketers don't realise that... well - most do, they just chose not to post in this thread.

My source was meant to be generic, just like the generic top 10 results i looked at on google to make a point. Maybe i'm "Just mad tho" for replying in a coherent manner. Maybe i should've just Dickrolled and moved on.
