Before you ask, this IS a serious thread and I mean this from the very, absolute bottom of my heart. I truly, truly am begging you guys for this - please write to an inmate (for example in writeaprisoner.com). I'm not asking, I'm BEGGING you. Truly. When I was in the abyss, I spent so many nights wondering if a single soul cared for me or even gave two fucks about my existence. It would have meant the world to me to get a comforting letter affirming that. Please, this is the most difficult time of a person's life - and whether or not you believe they deserve to be there, SO many people are suffering. They are in a kind of pain I can't begin to describe that simply dehumanizes the individual. If you can find it within you, I beg you to simply take 5 minutes out of your day to write to an inmate and tell them to keep their head up. Please forgive them and look past the flesh to the spirit trapped within. If you really want a lifelong friend, all you have to do is open your heart.
