What Do You Think About A Company Who Does This?

You are interviewing for a marketing manager position and the company wants a complete site analysis before the interview to pre-qualify you for the position before you meet.

Anyone been asked to do this before?

Easy way to get input for their in-house analyst to implement without having to hire anyone. Tell them they need some SE-0 and more Google Pageranks.

I would provide a 'preliminary' version; with full version available upon candidate selection.

I never really like to turn anything down; I just condition it. This goes for almost everyone (customers of an ecommerce site, contractors, employers, employees, etc) Good marketing is always about fulfilling a need while maximizing a return (in this case you fulfill their need for a report, while maximize your potential return for your time)

If a companys best strategy for a marketing plan is to sift through the shit off the street then I im sure they wont be in business long.

I really doubt this is the case.

I like greens idea.

I would tell them you want a retainer... If they hire you, they can take it out of your first pay check. If they don't, you keep it.

You have to approach the deal like you are worth it and make sure they know that you are confident enough to do a great job, but not naive enough to open yourself up to undue risk.

If you're going to be a "manager", that should make them want you even more.

People with strong technical skills and good business skills are hard to find.

Makes a lot more sense than looking at a bunch of fucking retarded resumes doesn't it? If you're going to hire someone don't you want to see the application of their knowledge and not just a list of skills on a sheet of paper?

1. Tell them they need to update their meta keywords
2. Tell them they need to have a link exchange page
3. Tell them they need a stat counter in the footer
4. Tell them to insert more keyword heavy text the same color as the background
5. Then sign your generous employment contract and make bank bro.

Bonus suggestion for the big time ass kissing points. Recommend they add this image somewhere on the home page.

I'd go with Greenleaves' idea. You do have to consider that they might want to see that you are not full of shit like the other 99% of SEOers that don't know what they are doing to actually get results.

In my opinion it's a little extreme, but not completely out of the question as people outright lie on their resumes.

What I would be looking for is someone who:
-is looking at the same signals I am
-is looking at things I may not be
-can set him/her self apart by giving me something creative (see greanleaves post)

Good luck

I would say yes, no problem.

Do a complete fucking breakdown on their competitors site, like A+ mind fucking blown report. Then tell them if they so much as fart in your direction you turn blue widget Austin texas in to a fortune 500 company. I get an expense allowance as well , say that at the end , flip your personal biz. that you hand wrote the competitors name on as your employer.

It's not bad that they're requiring an analysis to review, but they should equally respect your time and pay you for it. Tactfully ask about this option, and move forward.

I went with Greenleave's suggestion.

I've given them enough for now. If they want the full service, they can hire me.

Do the analysis but hand them nothing. Let them ask you questions which you can intelligently respond to based upon your findings. See if they even understand the issues at hand and "ask why are you hiring someone in the first place?". Have an brief opinion about what you could do but there is no reason to elaborate in any details unless you feel the need.

Nowhere that I can see in your OP do you state WHAT site they want you to review.

If it's THEIR'S, then they are fucking retarded. They don't know what the fuck they are doing.

If I was hiring a "Marketing Manager", I would ask for complete site review of a completely outside site of YOUR CHOICE, or totally picked at RANDOM, and then evaluate your conclusions.

How the fuck are they going to objectively evaluate your reco's otherwise?
