I used to go on 30 day challenges where I work from when I woke up to when I feel asleep for 30 days straight without doing anything else... until someone told me that was extreme.

Now, I'm tracking my work hours on harvestapp and I'm getting about 20 hours of work in a week. I feel that this is super low however I'm reading more and spending time on other areas of my life.

So, how many hours a week do you work?

according to rescuetime, i'm on the internet 70 hours a week. average weekly productive time is from 40-50% (time on stackoverflow, in eclipse, etc)

so from 28-34 hours of actual work a week.

i can deal with that because i basically spend my life in the office, don't mind wasting sometime arsing about on WF and twitter.

Work until your head hurts or your focus slips. Take a nap or go do something fun. Then get back to work. Just listen to your body and go with the flow.

Forcing myself to work has never been productive for me.

I'm at camp, so all I do is work. That's the best way I can rationalize my existence to myself atm. Out in the middle of nowhere, nothing to do, and even have to contend with monkeys, hoping they don't kick the shit out of my dogs.

That's even the analogy I use when I talk to family back home. I tell them current life is like being out at camp in Rainbow Lake (small, shithole, oil patch town in the middle of nowhere). Should be all over soon enough though.

Bank account is enjoying it, but can't say I am. :)

Currently I am aiming for mon - fri / 9 - 5. Busting your ass is all well and good but it doesn't leave much room for anything else. Last year I said to myself that I was going to work every hour. I did and luckily now I have managed to establish a regular income while still remaining self employed. Now that I have done that this year I said I was most defiantly going to work LESS. If I was single it might be different but sure as a lot of you know it doesn't take long for this line of work to have a negative affect on your relationship!

Don't get me wrong, i'm not shy if needs be I can work loooong hours. You need to have a life though.

I do the same thing at work I do when I'm home, so I guess I always work...

But 8 hours a day I work for someone else, the rest I work for myself.

Today I've been making animations in 3ds max and decompiling software to get the 3d assets contained within :)

This is a very good tip. I have a tendency to overwork myself, but I end up doing nothing and wasting time basically. I just stress myself out about how I should be working and I'm fully prepared to work, but I'm just unable to, it's fucked up, waste of time, stressful and makes the task harder than it should be.

i work 5-10 hours/week. why the fuck would i work more than 5-10 hours when i can play video games, work out, eat, and be the laziest man on earth?

I work about 8-5 mon-fri plus probably the odd extra evening/weekend half day. So about 50 hours of "work" time. Rescuetime says of the time I spend on the PC I spend ~65% of it doing "productive" stuff. Rescuetime doesn't get all of my week due to meetings, travel to/from meetings etc, mind you.

So actual productive work time probably hovers around 25-30 hours a week.

Lots of people say they work 10-18 hour days, but that doesn't mean that at all. I spend 16 hours a day in front of the computer many days, but I don't spend that much time working.

I also don't think that working 12 hours a day 7 days a week is something to be proud of. It just indicates that you're extremely poor at delegating, aren't working smart & probably are failing in other areas of your life [pick from health & relationships].

My goal is always to work less and leverage more.

Generally I'm up around 6am, and working by 630 or 7am until 5-6pm. The only day I really take off is Sunday.. but sometimes Saturday as well depending how beat up I am. I don't work the whole time, but I'm in front of the computer all day.
