Selling the idea of affiliate marketing & getting paid as a affiliate manager.

I am planning to approach companies in the financial services sector who currently do not have any online affiliate programs and introduce them to affiliate marketing and pitch them on the idea of me helping them create a attractive affiliate offer and then recruiting and managing affiliates. ( I would like to charge for this as a initial service fee ) .. is that common practice ? how are vendors usually charged ?

Any tips on what makes a good affiliate offer and how should I approach these vendors ?

If anyone has any experience in this area, some consulting would be much appreciated.

I don't mean to assume that you don't know what you're doing, but I'd highly advise against this unless you have significant experience in affiliate marketing and creating offers.

At the moment we are doing lead generation for financial services on a small scale across our own network of sites and get paid around $5000 on each closed lead.

We would like to scale this up by recruiting affiliates but understand most affiliates want to get paid as soon as possible, it takes around 3 months for our leads to get closed on and for us to get paid... what would be attractive ?

Find an experienced partner to help, then get your arrangement in writing, in that order. Don't omit either unless you like surprise anal.

You want to close gigs that aren't even aware of what/how/why all this happens, not even yet knowing yourself, then close them on you doing all that for them?

Even companies that know about and want to be a part of the AM world aren't going to line up to say yes to the new guy on the block.

Meetings with the decision makers within your target companys AFTER you've partnered up with someone that has closed enough deals and/or built and managed enough campaigns to be able to present with any success. Once you've sat through enough meetings/drinks/closes/creative sessions/creative builds/integrations/resolutions/fraud protections/creative optimizations/dipshits you could do it all yourself. But with a competent partner and water proof agreement between you, you'll be far more likely to get what you want out of this faster than the decade it sounds like it might take you if you try to do this without knowing enough to write a sticky on this board.
