New Here and The 'One' Thing for success

Hi All,
First of all, I am new here so i just wanted to say hi. I am a software engineer by trade, but want to take a new direction in life so am turning to internet marketing to get the kind of '4 hour work week' i want.

My first question is regarding Success. If you had just one thing you could say significantly helps 'it', what would it be. From the reading/research I have done, several things come to mind including the good 'ol general ones such as 'do what you love', persistence etc. In the realm of internet marketing, choosing/finding a niche to me would seem a critical point. If you don't have a good niche, you could be the best marketer in the world and make no $$..At least that is how i see it as a newbie.

Anyway, thanks for any replies and will be talking to more people on this forum soon.

The most important part is 'action'. Most people just get overwhelmed with info or try to find the perfect plan for how to build a site and they never get off to start doing anything.

So once you come up with an idea, stick with it, and just go out and do something. take action.
 
The most important thing is not to paste sitepoint graphics in your first thread.

Seriously though, research and dedication are key. And a good work ethic, completing and handling one project at a time. All of which I suck at by the way ;)
 
Don't break the chain.

Do something towards your entrepreneurial goals every day. EVERY DAY.

Also:
Do it fucking now.

Action and motivation are my biggest challenges.

Get that thought right out of your mind. You need to be fearless and come out swinging. Cocky guys get all the chicks, cocky guys get all the checks. Read the board. Install Wordpress, write about you favorite hobby and then sign up for Adsense. By Friday you'll be leaps and bounds ahead of 500 lurkers on this forum. 1 hour closer to that 4 hour week.

You're already are a success - you got a degree and a job. The rest is all fluff. Read the forums and fuck up.
 
I think being risk averse is the biggest barrier, and stops most people. Eg you seem hung up on finding a golden niche and so you might end up obsessing over it, ignoring better opportunities.

The best thing to do is choose something that you are passionate about to be your niche. Then do the research to make sure there is a market for that out there, that should get you started.
