Every day, I get a call from a company asking for ‘Garrick’.
I always tell them I’m not Garrick. I started out polite, but have been getting progressively angrier. They always hang up on me halfway through whatever I’m saying.
I’ve had enough. I traced their phone number back to a magazine company in Des Moines, Iowa. Next time they call, I’m going to share that information with them and tell them that I’ll burn their office down if they keep calling me.

There isn't a jury on Earth that would convict me.
 


hahaha register for the do not call list. I did awhile ago but one company keeps calling..
 
The 'Manual Buzzer' is always great.

If your not a Jim Rome fan it basically is going "WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!" into your phone as loud as you can.

Then hang up on the sob, see if he gets the hint.
 
here's a neat trick.

confirm who's calling via caller id, then pickup the phone and yell "domino's pizza! may i take your order?"

tried on 2 asshole marketers who would not quit calling and it worked!

That can seriously damage the mic in your phone.
I've done what Spock suggested (albeit a local variation). My calls dropped from 3 a day to about 1 a week, and that one a week is asking if I want a new "free" mobile, so there's nothing you can do to get rid of them other than say no and hangup.

Sadly, thanks to various laws that were past since 2001, they can get onto you with terrorism charges, instead of just arson.

But yeah, why not start ringing them up all the time, asking for the manager, and try to sell him stuff. Do it from Skype, cheaper, and you can find sites that proxy through for a different number.
 
I like to mess with them, but I like not geting called better.

One time one called and wanted to sell something. I just said, sorry I'm Amish and I'm not allowed to use a phone. The person appologized and hung up never questioning why I had a phone.

Another time they tried to get me to do a time share in the Dells. I said that was nice, but I won't go t o wisconsin. She said why is that. I told her I was a Bears fan and as such I wouldn't set foot in wisconsin and in fact I never eat cheese. She says, wow your a really dedicated fan. Dork

Or just keep asking them stupid questions about (or not) what they are selling.

Registering for the do not call list was such a mistake. You can actually learn a lot from telemarketers who actually can sell and aren't just reading a script.
 
When they ask for Garrick again...say hold on....and go "Hey Rick, phone for you"...then blast them with a Rick Roll. Do that everytime they call.:D
 
Ok then what do I do about my problem. I keep getting a 5 minute recording on my cell phone from a Church. "Hello, this is Pastor Darrel and here is your uplifting message for today" It's a new cell number so I'm sure it was on their list from the previous owner. However I can't figure out how to get them to stop calling. When I call the number back it just rings endlessely. I looked it up, found the name of the church but that seems to be their only number in the yellow pages. It's annoying and it costs me minutes.

It's also slightly ironic that an atheist is being hounded by church calls.

Number Blocking? If it is the same number they call from, why not tell your phone company to block this number.
 
I got one once on a Friday evening just when I was leaving for a 4 day holiday weekend. It was one of the automated calls where they tell you to hold and a representative will be with you shortly.

I was going to fuck with them so I waited but nobody answered it just kept telling me to wait.

I just set the phone down and left for the weekend. When I got home late moday night (Monday was a holiday), it was still playing the recording.

I don't know what the bill was for that (72+ hours), but I don't think they called again.

Even now, if it's a company that keeps bugging me, I just set the phone down and leave them sit there. Every so often I'll pick it up and say "Just a minute" until they hang up.
 
I use GrandCentral... anytime someone I don't like calls me, I block them and add them to my spam list... next time they call they get a "this number has been disconnected" message, when in reality it has not.

Yeah, GrandCentral rocks. I give that number out for everything now, but I have a business number that I've had for quite a while and still get telemarketers on it.

What I love about GC is that all your long distance calls are free (in US), just add a number to your address book then click the "call" button. Took me a while to figure that out.

I wonder how long before they start charging.
 
20 years ago, telemarketing was like the internet marketing of today. The parallels are amazing. Just like the commercial that says you can learn a lot from a dummy, you can learn a lot from a good telemarketer.

For example, with a good outsourced telemarketer, you can make more bonafide personal contacts at a lower cost than any other medium.

But forget that, it's fun to take on telemarketers. I love beating them at their own game.
