in order to get max effect from this, do you need to post on your own site the article as well (maybe extended version?) or is submitting it to specific article dir. more than enough?

Article submission to Ezine and Isnare are worth in terms of traffic and strong backlinks. The other article directories are for "Just another link".
I recommending submitting on these two.
