those of you who still host with 'hostgator' ("What a crock") despite all the advice from w.f. members about what a useless bunch of incompetent tossers they are, now have yet another reason to worry.

Apparently, hostgator have just unilaterally changed everyone's passwords, 'in order to make them more secure'.

What these lying cowboys aren't telling you, of course, is that their security has been severely compromised, and they've been force to inflict yet another hassle on their long suffering customers diue to incredible hostgator incompetence

BTW, they like to steal affiliate commissions, and their support staff speak english about as well as my pet poodle.

Altyhough my poodle, obviously, is more clued up technically than the typical incompetent lying hostgator 'support operative' (read 'unemployable indian VB programmer')

They didn't change my password, don't know what your smoking - but it must be good. Pass it around.

I do know that some of my hostgator sites were down yesterday. I'm still feeling them out. I bought 6 months of their reseller hosting through my own aff link so im only out 20 bucks for 6 months... we'll see.

Just picked up a reseller account a couple weeks ago. Just dropped it today.

3 outages this week alone. 2 support tickets with stupid answers. Didn't give them a chance to explain the third one.

I dropped hostgator a couple years ago as well and was giving them a second chance. I might not have been so critical other than that :) I was hacked, deleted, lost folders, etc.. with hostgator more than I can count. It was always "my fault".... the same stuff I had running with hostgator I have on other servers with zero issues.

I've been using hostgator for about 2 months now. Not enough time to really have that much of an opinion but I had been looking for a decent shared host service for my simple little blogs and whatnot and they seemed to be the best choice. Last year I tried some fucking bullshit hosting from ehost.net that I bought off ebay and that was a terrible mistake and I ended up losing all my files. If not hostgator, what do you guys recommend for simple shared hosting?

hostgator are famous for 'accidentlally billing' you long after you've cancelled. Don't say you weren't warned. As for the couple of shitforbrains hostgator shills who replied first, I am now in possession of the email from the hostgator 'big crock of shit' himself.

"We've recently have done an audit of HostGator's web hosting services
and have found that many of our customers have a weak password.

In an attempt to secure your hosting further we have changed all of our
customers passwords to a randomly generated password that meets our
guidelines . WITHOUT WARNING BECAUSE WE ARE A BUNCH OF INCOMPETENT USELESS FUCKWITS AT HOSTGATOR

In order to obtain your new password please click the following link:

non functioning link

How do you know this is from HostGator?

er.. typos? Non sequiturs? General bullshit?

1. We put your name in the email.
2. Mouse over the url and it is in fact non functioning style='color:#0020AA;font-weight:bold;' target='_blank'>https:///secure.hostgator.com</a>
3. Try logging into your account and you will notice the password has
been changed. no shit sherlock.

Why are we doing this now?

because we fucked up BIG time at hostgator, and rather than apologize and come clean, we think you are all SO STUPID we can fool you with some bullshit about it being 'for your own good'. Seriously.

I myself understand what a huge inconvenience this is of course you do, hostgator shitforbrains. That's why you didn't even have the decency to announce it to your poor sodding customers up front. Like every time you fuck up, hostgator just try and 'sweep it under the carpet' and I am extremely
sorry for any trouble it has caused. Here are my thoughts on why we are
doing this huge security update....

1. HostGator has been in business since 2002 (HOW? Pure fucking luck, presumably) without ever requiring a
password change. That means it has been six years for many of our
customers without ever changing a password!

2. Things are a little different now then when I started HostGator in my
dorm room in 2002. and that's still where you run it our of, you lying shuckster. although I will admit you do have a spare bunk in there now for your single non-english speaking 'support' asshole Security is now a major aspect of running a web based
business and regular password changes is a step in the right direction
to keep your accounts safe.

3. We are about to launch our new billing system. The new billing system
we are close to launching will never display the full password to anyone
including myself! and you wont be able to cancel anymore. Your ass is mine now, cheap hosting sucker!

*Please do not change your password back to what it was. We are trying
to make sure we are 100% secure as we migrate to our new billing system.
I'm extremely sorry for this inconvenience and thank you for understanding.

and we still have to pretend that this was a legitimate operation. After all, the kind of person who hasn't changed a password in 6 years will opbviously.... reset it to something HARDER to guess, won't they???? Jeezuz.
Sincerely,

Brent Oxley

ps dont ever accumulate than $1000 in affiliate sales from me, because I'll just cancel your account and keep the money, claiming that the customers you sent me were in some way 'incentivized', even though I'm still billing them all.

6th month now with HG reseller acct, still had no probs with them. I guess I am just plain lucky after reading that.

presumably they only sent the email out to 'all customers' on the server that had been compromised. You know, the old 386 under Hymie's bunk.

I haven't had very good experiences with Hostgator either, but my passwords stayed the same.
I would like to find a better host though...what's the consensus on best hosts?

so John, I've never used them. Are you recommending them to w.f. members? Whatever, I guess they could never be worse than hostgator (ghosthater)
