so if google doesn't allow advertising for certain things, then why do ads show up containing these keywords?, how is this possible? and if i advertise the same products without using the 'banned' words will they pull the plug on me? if anyone could shed some light on this topic that would be great. thanks

I'd tell you but it's already in my uber-E-Book. Paypal me $500 and I'll send you the PDF.

in adwords, google wont let certain restricted words to be used or advertised, but when these words are searched for in google these restricted words show up in ads. how is this possible?

nope, for example, type in 'cheap cigarette'. you can't put the word cigarette into your ad, yet there are ads that contain that word.

maybe they used DKI? just a thought... btw, i only saw one ad with the word cigarette. the rest were using variants like cig, cigs, etc

You can request an exemption if your not actually advertising the exact product. For example, it's perfectly OK to have a "antique cigarette box" store and advertise using the word "cigarette".

Another example would be an exemption for the word "guns". You cannot advertise firearms but can request an exemption for "pricing guns" (those hand held things that store clerks use to put the prices on groceries).

Speak to your account rep. They can be VERY helpful with stuff like this.
