End of the rainbow
Coming from AdWords, Yahoo's system seems completely retarded.

Say I want to bid on terms such as:

i need to lose weight
i want to lose weight
need to lose weight fast
etc.

But I DON'T want my ad appearing when someone searches for just "lose weight".

Well, the above terms - even when set to Standard Match - cause my ad to be shown when someone searches "lose weight".

Am I right that my only option here is to turn on Advanced Match and add things like "lose weight" as negatives?

I've had nothing but very bad experiences with Advanced Match in the past so I see that causing all sorts of new problems.

Am I missing something here?

Yahoo's site says that Standard Match "displays your ads for exact matches to your keywords, as well as for singular or plural variations and common misspellings."

How the heck is the phrase "lose weight" a singular, plural or common misspelling of the term "i need to lose weight fast" ?

Unless I'm missing something here, Yahoo is just ripping people off like crazy with the way this system works.

You're not crazy. BUT, if that's your biggest gripe with YSM so far, you're lucky. Yahoo have actually made me throw my latop at the wall in rage at one point. There is a LOT more fucked up shit to deal with through their system.

It's a terrible system but if you want the traffic, you need to play by their ehhh... rules.

PS: Don't bother complaining. They don't give a shit.

If Google rips you off it's to benefit the consumer.
If MSN rips you off it's because their incompetence accidentally did it
If Yahoo rips you off it's because they think marketers won't notice and they want to inflate their stock price.

Here's the reason Yahoo disapproved one of my ads: "<>". How are you supposed to work with a reply like that?

thats funny, the editors are definately retarded, but they arent as bad as they used to be.
They used to love to destroy all my ringtone campaigns for some reason. I would wake up and someone would randomly delete 50% of my keywords. Now its just the random word or ad here and there

Ok so for real, can anyone tell me how to get my ads shown for the exact terms I want, and not shown for the terms I don't want? Or is it not possible with Yahoo?

yahoo is horrid. I sat and watched some of the clicks trough prosper.. its like 50% trash and thats with negative keywords and content network turned off. And they charge u for every click. Only thing yahoo is good for is ghetto direct linking.

Believe it or not I'm actually making money from my Yahoo traffic. If I could just get my ads to NOT show for the terms I don't want it to show for, I could be making even more.
