Hey,
So last night and today, I decided to run an experiment on gaming my CTR on Adwords. In hopes that it will overall lead me to top positions for my keywords for a while.
First of all, I took one of my keywords. I bid high enough to remain on the first page. My AD was floating between positions 7-8. I let it run for exactly 3 hours. I just wanted to record the amount of impressions my AD received.
At the end of the 3 hours, I had about 3,000 impressions in my data; 60 clicks.
What I was planning to do, was get my AD to a CTR of 20% on my own.
Once I activated the AD again. I used different IP's to click my AD about 200 times an hour. Within three hours, I had 612 clicks recorded, 3,200 impressions, close to 20% CTR.
Upon examining my AD position after 3 hours. My ad was located above the organic results. I then let it run for 5 more hours. During that time, my CTR bounced down to 15%; and stayed constant at the level.
When I was first doing the impression test on positions 7/8; I was running a 2% CTR; and paying an average of $2.00/click. Once I got above the organic results, I was paying an average of $1.00/click. Also, quality score had gone from 5/10 to 9/10.
Just wanted to point this out to all. If you have good money to burn, then you can easily gain a quick high position, and bank from there.
