First off this is an awesome site and I've read a ton of great information the last day or so. However, I'm a overwhelmed and figured I should take action rather then keep reading and getting more confused.

I've never made a website before but have always had an interest in doing so. Therefore, I figured my first attempt in affiliate marketing should be making an ebay niche store.

Do you guys recommend I go that route? My thinking is: its a low cost project, I'll learn to make a website, I'll learn to rank up in google, and assuming I target a good niche I have a good chance to make some cash w/o paying Google (yet).

If you don't recommend this path... what do you recommend a newb trys 1st? If you think I should go this route who do you guys recommend for domain registration/hosting and software to build a webpage? Right now I'm considering using Joomla but would love to hear other recomendations.

Thanks ahead of time for any help! Oh ya and please spare me the gay sex links lol. I've seen way too much penis via this site the last few days....

Mark,
Dude. It's not cool to fuck with the Nubes in this section. You have been here about 10 min. and annoyed just about everyone. If it wasn't for Popeye you would be the lead douchebag this week.

Turbo is held in high regard around here. If you are going to pick a fight with her, my money would be on her.

BTW - The only thing worse than a DP looser is moron that gets banned from that excuse of a site.

I suggest you read my post "How to create your first online asset", plus the second part on glowleaf.net. I am not linking it, I linked a lot of my posts lately and I dont want any douchebag to think that I am self promoting. Also, that way you can be sure there are no flying dicks there.

EDIT: Yes, seomark, go fuck yourself. Seriously.

Afunk: Glowleaf's got some good stuff on his blog, so give that a whirl.

My advice is that you don't actually do eBay as a first timer, but rather Amazon.
The reason why I say no about eBay is because I doubt you have the products, which means you're relying on a drop shipper... There are so many spots along the way that you can get burned doing the drop shipping stuff.
Sure, the payout is supposedly better, but there's a lot more risk involved.

But yeah, if you're going to be passive about it, then online stores are a good solution.

If you're wanting to gear up, and do a bit of chasing with some PPC, or even minisites, my money is on PPS programs.

Harvey, I think he meant to do a BANS store or something like that, not sell through ebay. I think...

And thanks for the kind words, but most of my posts are for advanced affiliates, with a couple exceptions, like the asset creation posts. I think he will be even more overwhelmed if the reads the rest :)

Go find a CPA product and market that, or get a product from Clickbank and make a site around that. The payouts are higher and its much easier to drive conversions that way versus using Amazon.

In all honestly, learn direct response marketing. Learn to write ad copies. Then have an opt in page, write a bunch of emails promoting some CPA stuff for easy commission.

Funk - When you think you've read too much and feel confused, test some shit and then come back and read some more. I fully believe that one can never get enough input. So onto your question, I think setting up a ebay site is a good start. Since you have never built a website before, I would suggest using the phpBay plugin for wordpress. Wordpress is super user friendly imo and the search engines love that platform. I started setting up phpBay Sites about 2 months ago. I have 5 now and average about $100-$150 per site each month and it grows every month. Each site took me about 6-8 hours to throw up and then some link building. Pretty simple stuff. Joomla is a good route, however since I first used wordpress, I will always use that as my CMS. Thats just personal preference though.

Some simple Steps

1. get some hosting, I recommend bluehost but there are other shared hosting providers out there.
Bluehost

2. go get phpBay its worth every penny!
phpBay Pro - Ebay Affiliate Script

3. Signup for epn, it will take a bit to get approved, when they ask to see your website or what you do, just say you build websites and drive traffic to them, worked for me. Now in the meantime while waiting for epn to approve you go do some research...

3. go do some research on what ebay has for auction by catagories
eBay catagories by #

4. when you think you have found something you might want to build a site around go type in the main term for the product at wordtracker. Its free.
Free Keyword Suggestion Tool From Wordtracker

5. See what comes back with the highest search results. Once you find something that gets searched more than say 200 times a day go to google and do a search for that term and put brackets in front of and at the end of the term so for example "your mom" and see how many pages google returns, if its under 500,000 I would say its worth trying.

6. Now that you have found your niche to build your site around go buy a domain name at namecheap, get a domain name that has your keywords in it. So if you were doing a golf site, like rgordon, you would want a domain with golf in it, like bestgolfbargains dot com (just an example). Now that you have your domain name your ready to rock.
Namecheap.com

7. Now here is a tutorial that will walk you through building your epn site, its a great resource!
PHPBay: Start to Finish Tutorial : eurekadiary.com

8. Once you have your site done and built and epn has approved you, social bookmark that sucker either with red_virus, search for his name here on wickedfire or find a list of dofollow social bookmarking sites and do it yourself.

phpBay Pro Tips this is a great site, its ran by rgordon who frequents this forum
PHPBay: Start to Finish Tutorial : eurekadiary.com - a walk through tutorial on how to setup your site

I highly recommend both of those sites, both sites are ran by members of this forum and are filled with great info. With a little bit of hard work, your ebay site should start making you some money. My first one made $80 the first month all from organic traffic. Anyways, good luck!

Thanks for all the great responses guys. I just bought some web hosting and am going to start building my first web page. I think I found a pretty solid niche to target, so I'm going to promote the product with my website and direct users to purchase it via amazon or ebay.

After that I'm going to give PPC marketing a try. Originally I wanted to go this route but was hesitant because it looked like it would cost much more money.

Learning copywriting has my vote. If you can get people to take "little actions" in the very beginning, kinda like RegCure does with it's site...that gets people more involved in the sales and marketing process, which increases conversion.

Plus, targeting people who need immediate solutions to a problem they are having, so long as there are enough people in that market...is a good place to start.

Start by thinking of things you had to search for on the net to solve an annoying problem.

Also, go read Jon's blog a little...there are a few posts on there that you can use.

For learning copywriting someone recommended just going to Gary Halbert's site and reading all his newsletters and learning from them. I havent done it yet.
