Let this be a warning to anyone thinking about running a shitty blog acai/colon campaign on myspace.

On December 21 I set up [URL REMOVED ON REQUEST] and tracking with prosper202. It was modelled after my buddy's landing page which he's doing well with. Looks ok, right? I then made 12 advertisements, and launched campaigns for both of them across two accounts on MySpace with CPC of $0.35-$0.37. They weren't catching on, though, so I raised the daily spend on a few to $75.00. I lost a bit of money on December 24th, but it was Christmas Eve so I just paused them.

I turned them back on again the afternoon of the 26th. All of a sudden campaigns were exploding, but I still only had a few hundred clicks so I raised the limit of more campaigns to $50.00, thinking I was only at a loss (I had made 2 conversions for about $100 spend) because of lack of enough data.

Yesterday evening, campaigns kept exploding, and tracking202 showed $150 spend (thanks myspace for not having a total spend feature!!) so I kept pushing. Finally I got my third-and what would be my final-sale. Still, tracking202 only showed like $180 spend so I was only down $80 and kept pushing. I noticed that about 50/1000 (or 5%) were clicking through my LP to the offer. So I looked at my buddys landing page, which is actually converting, and noticed he had one of those onLeave javascripts. So I added one last night and let it sit.

Wake up this morning, and there's about 200 more clicks and about 4 of them through to the offers. No conversions.

So I've made $100. Ok but I only spent $200 right? Wrong. I go into my PayPal and notice myspace has taken out $437. HOLY SHIT! I was not planning for this.

Someone suggested MySpace may have overcharged me, but for 1200 clicks at $0.35, that should be about $450. I also added up the charges of all 24 campaigns and got $431 (so they overcharged me $6??). For some reason tracking202 estimated the CPC at $0.20 even though I had entered it at $0.35 and $0.37 for all the campaigns.

So the morals of the story?

  • Don't rely on one tracking system to show your spend.
  • Don't keep increasing spending thinking there's strength in numbers. Get conversions first, then increase.
  • DEAR MYSPACE: Stop working on your fucking piece of shit flex graphing systems, and make an overview page so I know how much I fucking spent. Dickwads.
  • If you are going to run a weight loss blog, your primary concern should be getting visitors to click through to your offers. You can get 1000 hits, but if only 50 click through to your offers, what's the point?
Fuck. :angryfire:

I feel your pain, I had a similar experience. MySpace traffic SUX I don't know how people get good ROI with min CPC of .25

With FB the user has to decide to click on the ads because they are off to the side, the MySpace ad, especially the 300x250, are smack in the middle of the action, I an only imagine how many "accidental" clicks you have to pay .25 cents for.

Anyway, try it on FB and recoop some of those losses.

ive been having a lot of trouble with the click throughs myselfs. ill get 1000 clicks off one campaign and out of those 1000 only 20-50 clicks go through. i tried targeting down to the basics of who my product is targeting. still i get like 200 clicks and 30 click throughs its brutal i dont know how anyone gets click throughs ive tried different landers and i am currently using a blog style lander myself.

I am new to the Acai world and social network advertisement. I did exactly same experiment. I did buy about 60 clicks from myspace at 50 cents. I could send 2 clicks to the Acai website, and I made no conversions (Obviously)

I am honestly curious if this Acai would work from facebook/myspace!

Yeah those numbers are basically the same as mine. I've heard from people that they are getting shitty numbers there but are still profiting. Wtf??

Stop outing your own landing pages!!!! This outing of landing pages is getting ridiculous, when people start to out their own pages :)

And yes, MySpace has a bit to work on in its reporting interface.

I don't care if anyone sees my landing page. It's just like every other one and if anything I want criticism on it.

The ads themselves make alot of difference. I would try creating some differently styled ads and starting up again in a few days or now. The landing page looks ok to me.

Hey chatmasta, thanks for the story and advice. I am the last person to give advice or pointers, but your "About" page is still the default wordpress page. Not sure if that will help or not since the About link is at the very bottom.

Here is a thought... maybe people are starting to realize these are fake blogs considering they only have one post!

I am going to make a lander with like 5 posts "tracking" the weight loss story, trying to make it more legit.

Will let you know if that converts better.

Hello friend,

While you have lost some money, you have also gained some knowledge. So in the end you may have not lossed at all.

Good luck bro.

It fuckin pwned on facebook, I sucked at myspace traffic though.

Yeah I'm going to throw some stuff up on facebook and try to catch hold of New Years resolutions. Campaigns are 100x more manageable there too so I feel safer. :P

Good luck getting anything profitable through the FB ad team.

I saw some acai ads on FB the other day. It's def possible to get them through. It's pretty much your lander nowadays that decides whether your ad gets disapproved or approved.

Or you can try and get creative like me and sumbit 100 ads that I knew were going to get approved and throw a couple acai ones randomly in there. Though they caught the acai ones haha.

The acai ads are probably grandfathered in, they won't let in any new ones. You can try to get around it by cloaking, but then your CTR will suck.
