I don't think the presentation matches the quality of the work, as I believe it should. I'd say for work as in-depth as yours with Mansion and with the level of quality, it would be a great idea to provide it as more than a showcase of creatives, but also a showcase of case studies.

Your work is obviously good, which places you out of the realm of most designers—so how will you go beyond proving that you have the raw talent to find bigger or better clients? By proving that you have the knowledge and understanding to provide for the clients that skim over every other designer. Wow them and you'll find room to grow.

Great work though. Very solid, and consistent.

Thanks for the feedback symptic. I agree with you and will probably change the format to a more wordy version. There's some junk in there, and some stuff to add, and yes, there needs to be some sort of case study done on the bigger projects. I'll probably put less in and expand on the details on V2.

Cheers!

Good idea. :) Also, depending on how people find you, you may want to consider a one-page case study layout for each client, akin to Black Estate Vineyard ? Omihi Waipara. New Zealand Wine or fuel index | Insidious Fish. I'm not saying you have to follow suit on what I say, but as your peer that is the approach I would take, and am taking myself.

found it to be a hassle and a lot of scrolling up and down to view designs... and then there wasn't much to it - so case studies or project info would be a nice addition as mentioned above.

nice sig, btw. ;)

Agreed, the work is much better than the presentation.

Did you really design Tottenham Hotspur's shirts?! I live in London where they play, but I support Arsenal their arch rivals.

Some great stuff in there!

My feedback echos what others have said: the flash is not super intuitive... starts as a slideshow but if you click on individual thumbnails there's no way (at least not one I saw) to start the show. If you're going to go for that format, why not go for the default pause, play, advance 1, advance to end, etc. controls?

Also, I hate it when people who have all the trappings of a professional operation (and yours looks good) drop the free email address as their contact information on their site or their card. If you're going to host on deepbass, consider setting up a deepbass address that forwards to your gmail.

BTW: Love that you dropped the WF logo in your portfolio. Your car?

Heh, yeah man. I created the Mansion brand and designed the 2006-2007, 2007-2008, and 2008-2009 Spurs shirts. I didn't have any say in the colours of the shirts themselves but did the layouts. I was there in 2007 for the Spurs/ Arsenal matchup at White Hart and that was pretty cool. Small contingent of Arsenal fans but you could see and feel the tension in the building. That was my first European football match now that I think about it. The second was the England/ Paraguay game in the first round of the World Cup. We (80+ punters and staff) flew in on that Flybe jet and got the full VIP treatment.

Paid attention to everything else you've said but this stood out. You're so right, need to change the email to a proper business one. I've just been using my gmail for so long now that it has become habit. I'll change that and do expect that I will also change the entire format to something a little more straight forward. The fact that there's no pause/play combo is a little silly.

The car's not mine (I wish). That was my entry into the banner competiton that Jon put up back around when I got started here.

Thanks for the feedback thus far folks. Much appreciated!

Yeppers, I do a fair bit of vector work.

There are two club flyers there of the hot chicks, they look like Hed Kandi album cover illustrations... those flyers are both clipart mashups and the girls are stock art from Shutterstock.

I could do something like that but it would take quite a few hours to pull off, and the flyers were for promoting our own nights so I didn't want to spend too long working on them.

Otherwise, everything else there is done by my own hand.

That's awesome. I'm creating a football-related site for leagues (mostly small local ones). Do you have any contacts you could introduce me to by chance?

I've always liked the Mansion logo. Cool to find out the designer is another WF'er.

OFF TOPIC

Is it hard to live in Spain with that language barrier? :P

Yeah, it can be a pain. It's a bit embarrassing that I've been here as long as I have yet still know as little Spanish as I do. My girlfriend takes classes once a week and she is much better than I am. The area we are in is full of ex pat Brits, and also has lots of Swedes, Danes, etc. who all speak good English. Everyone in Gib speaks English and we hang out with ex coworkers and friends who all speak English, so there's not a ton of incentive or need to learn. The Spanish people that we do know all want to speak English to us as well as they are trying to learn.

I would have been a whole lot different had we just been dumped into the interior of Spain somewhere, where we would be forced to learn to survive.

I've met a few people at Tottenham's offices, but no one I know well enough to make intros to I'm afraid. It's been almost a year and a half since I left Mansion and haven't spoke to anyone at Tottham for at least that long.
