Not sure what your degree is in, but if you do a few months of training you can find yourself a decently paid teaching position in the US while you wrap up the emergency teaching certification and work toward a real one. Some districts have their own certification program they are so desperate for people.

Health care is another field where there is a desperate need as are most skilled workers. A few training classes can have you working some of the technical machinery while you wait for the economy to improve. You might also consider something like substitute teaching or working with a tutoring group to get the bills paid a bit better while you build up your AM earnings if that is the route you choose.

Oh! And there's always the military. I hear they're looking for a few good men. *wink*
 


ALEX- if you made money with dating offers on FB, you can make $$ on fb with other offers. Invest the time and test. People are banking hard on FB.
Ive got an offer that brings me $50 a day net on FB ($1500/mo) and I dont even try.
I cant believe all the input on this thread about working offline..people, there is SOOO much opportunity online. No need to teach english in Japan or Brazil.

Even if you find a job there's no guarantee that you'll have it in a few months when more and more companies are chopping jobs. I just got laid off myself, along with a few hundred other unlucky saps.

I guess my point is to try and be independent at all costs.

Here in the DFW area there are freeway billboards advertising the need for more teachers, they are desperate here.
 
i've lived in thailand now for like 5 years on around $1000 a month and lived great. big house near the beach, loads of friends my age (30 er ish) go out and eat/party all the time. hot weather/women and low tax. many of my mates do it on less and still live far better than they did in the west. you're not just limited to here, malaysia, indo, bali are all cheap and beautiful.

the thousand sounds big but its like $33 a day or less than 1 acai lead in profit. its worth a thought anyway if you're stuck. take it like i did an extended "university" course. loads of time to kick back build campaigns and learn skills full time or part time. work it around your hangovers. and when you're done and ready to go home you'll either be ballin like eagle or the economy back home will have picked up :)

i come from an IT background too, used to be a network engineer. i would be fucked going back to the uk now, no jobs there either. don't think i'd fit in now anyway, back home, totally off real society - its a rat race.

So if most of the pop makes 180 how do they pay for $20/hour English?

wow dude, that's fucking amazing, i don't see why any affiliate wouldn't get the fuck out of HIGH cost of living cities like LA where I reside and move there instead. How much are taxes over there?

I've given some thought to living someplace overseas, but that pretty much stopped when my friend from the Philippines was telling me about his home country:

"Oh yeah, it's a beautiful place and the people are all really laid back and nice - unless you're an American. Don't stay out after dark or you'll be kidnapped and raped to death."

I doubt it's like that everywhere, but Americans are kinda the world's pariah right now. I know a guy here from Germany, and he was telling us about how shitty Germany's economy is right now, and he ended his little spiel with "but of course everybody in Europe knows the global economic crisis is America's fault."

So yeah, I hesitate to go anywhere for a few years.

LOL what a stupid question... you wont be teaching the brazilian joes you would be teaching people for companies like (halliburton, schlumberger, etc) american/european oil companies based in Brazil which hire brazilian people but they must comunicate in english with their employers.

Basically my point was for Alex not to come and teach english in Brazil or anywhere else, I meant that by living abroad you can enjoy a better life quality by earning less than in the states.
 
I'll add my little snippet of advice here - diversify. I have a file on my PC full of ideas that I don't have time to do that I've picked up from different places, mainly here and BHW really. If I just took one of those ideas and stopped being so lazy I'd seriously increase my income, so I really think it's possible to get over this bullshit economy without having to get a job.

Just some stuff off the top of my head:

- Lead generation for local business
- SEO for local business (ideally a recurring monthly fee)

I might be wrong because I'll be honest and say I'm not involved in this right now so don't have exact figures or anything, but what's stopping you from ringing up every business in the area, and beyond, and getting a few clients that you charge $20/month to make sure that their site stays at the top of Google for some local phrase.

I'm betting someone of your caliber could probably do that easily. I really hope you don't have to get a job dude, man, jobs suck so bad.

thailand is more laid back than the philippines by far you wouldn't have any problems being an american. being a tight bastard who sits round a table in a restaurant with 20 friends sharing ONE bottle of water might make you unpopular though (not naming the nationality that does that all the time). my brother in law is from san fran and a lot of my mates are weed growers from there too who spend a lot of time here err between crops. none of them have any problems. the majority of the guys i know who live here full time are english, american, aussie or irish.

as for tax, 7% if you go fully legal or 0% if you invoke a somewhat grey loophole regarding running a business via the internet. consult a thai lawyer on that one. its complicated to setup and only worth doing if you're in it for the long haul. as with anything tax wise you have to be declared non resident and have an offshore bank account to do properly. but if you're thinking of taking a year out imagine kicking back by the beach, living on one rebill a day, drinking mai tais and learning skills. i started off just learning to code out of boredom, then design and now i do this.

Your friend is exaggerating. Honestly,the germans mood is more like "at least our economy is still slightly better off than the american's" and germans don't hate americans for causing the crisis (of course you got idiots everywhere). Most germans know "our guys" are just as guilty as "your guys" when it comes to the crisis.

Americans aren't hated over here...2 years ago,yes maybe by some.But now you guys have obama and europe loves him for beeing...well...not bush.

But if you're sersiouly considering to emigrate,come for a visit first (i'm not talking about germany,only) since you might end up hating it. It's like travolta said in pulp fiction: "It's the little differences." And If you aren't open minded you might end up hating it pretty quick.

I have made multiple trips to the Philippines and been out after dark every time without any issues. The only problems I ever had were a couple crooked taxi drivers trying to leave their meters off so they can overcharge. I am planning on building a second home there.
 
start looking for some freelance stuff now to get some cashflow. who knows, it could turn into something? maybe your own business?

Find something you better than everyone else (or sell yourself as though you do it better). Get a few clients and build through referrals.
 
I don't want to sound like a dick but it's not the economy it's you. There's plenty of ways to make money in internet marketing. Actually some offers are defensive against a bad economy.

and fat ladies are still insecure,
spend less time on wf and more time on testing offers.
