Facebook is completely changing the way they display ads. Now text is to the left, and picture is to the right. Ads are also mixed in with recommended groups and events your friends are attending.

Instead of three things, theres at least 8 different items on the sidebar now, a mix of recommendations and ads. You may not see this for your account, seems like they're rolling it out in batches.
Example: Top item is a show one of my friends is attending, the rest are ads.

Here's another one showing the entire ad sidebar. Fan recommendations mixed with ads. Ads have a very faint "sponsored".

will be interesting to see how it effects performance.

obviously for now it will draw more attention to the ad area which could be positive.

How many ads do they think they can put on a fucking page? Get real. Impressions go up CTR drops like a rock.

As long as everyone's CTR goes down the same, it doesn't really matter. Of course, more ads to choose from on a page might result in less clicks- the non-sponsored links might steal some clicks.

Why wouldn't it matter if everyone's goes down? You make it sound like a game your playing with some friends. More ads will lead to less clicks overall, there's no question about it - which sucks for everyone but FB.

You're probably forgetting that since there are more positions, the ad will be shown more. (decreased CTR) * (more impressions) = same old number or clicks.

Unless you're saying that since there are more ads, users will get more annoyed and click on ads less in general. If anything, they will click more. Which I don't see as plausible, I think facebook has a firm grip on that, as it is their job.

More impressions do make a difference.

You can't really say that yet, you have no information to go by.

The CTR could be affected to the point where you will get less clicks regardless of having more impressions.

EDIT: I think I misinterpreted what you were saying, but I'll leave this here anyways.

As real estate begins to get more and more cluttered its the ads that "stick out" that will retain the high CTR.....
