Is there a way to get a report for total spending in 2008? It's tax time and I need to know how much I spent.

Try Reports, Monthly Reports for the last 12 months. For the remaining 3 months that that report doesn't include:
You can go to Account » Billing Summary and add up the totals for each month.

Only goes back to April with both of those methods :(.

if you have amex, they will all be there and you can just do a search for charges from facebook

Yeah I am, its not hard. It involves typing a number into excel once a day... maybe you can't manage that?

This allows me to not go on WF and bitch about having NO idea how much money I'm spending either...

Simple, basic, accounting...

fucking newbs.

And it's so hard to add up your numbers when it's tax season? Same shit dickwad.

Good for you. Now try and run multiple campaigns on Adwords, MSN, Yahoo, Ask.com, Looksmart, various ad networks and direct buys with dozens of sites. Not only are you wasting time, what you are doing is useless. You still will have to hand in some sort of invoice/statement/IO, and guess what, when you are getting all those documents, you could just as well do it at that point if needed. Oh and your genius idea doesn't take into account credits. In any case, I'd rather pay someone to bother with figuring all of this out, while I go and make money.

The only reason I keep track of my daily spend on all networks/ppc/fb etc is so I can track trends/daily spend/daily profit etc. I still use CC statements as the tell all for charges/taxes, but it's definitely nice to have an excel sheet w/ some conditional formatting to spot trending and profit/loss/other ratios.

its even harder when u gotta take into account exchange rates, facebook only works on USD, so i have to convert it to AUD daily, but theres no guarantee thats exactly what ill be charged on my credit card... might be a few dollars off which is not good enough. The only way i know what i've been charged is to check my credit card statement at the end of the month, and its a huge pain in the ass when theres charges every single day.. u dunno for what campaigns they were for etc. fken facebook, at least I can run adwords in AUD.

Been there, done that.

zzzzz...

If you're wondering why I take 5 min out of each day to write down the daily spends, its so I can track day to day performance for each campaign. Each one of those sites you've listed gives you your daily spend. It's not hard and worth the extra 5 min.

Accountants are great. I'm all for them, but it helps them do their job faster (and costs you less) if you have all your data to begin with.

You don't need do any real manual work to do this, or spend too much time with it, like keeping track by writing things down every day would get tedious and a waste of time even making your own notes every day in excel would be a waste of time. I have a very simple and effective method I started at the beginning of last year.

Just create a seperate bank account for your business, even if you don't have a business established and are a self-proprieter you can have more than one bank account at the same bank. Now with this new bank account get a debit card, all your business expenses go out this account, all your deposits and revenue come through here. You can even have 2 PayPal accounts one for personal and one for business. I have a business PayPal setup with my bank account for business purposes.

You can calculate your expenses in less than 10 min. no matter how much revenue you're doing or how much you're spending. Without having to keep track of anything, or waste any time. Just login to your online web banking (most if not all banks should offer this now).

Export your history, my bank allows to download in Excel format. I download in Excel format, and just sort the columns by name. Now, you can find all your facebook charges or any charge very quickly.

The 1st year I started in affiliate marketing I was using my personal bank account since I was just seeing how things were going, and testing stuff out. I never changed my financing setup and it took forever doing taxes, going through all my bank records, having to go through every charge individually to verify if it was a business expense, seperate my 9-5 deposits/earnings from my business deposits.

At the very beginning of last year, I changed that, went and got a second bank account at my bank and did everything like I stated. I had some extra time a month ago. I basically figured all my revenue and expenses in an hour probably. I already have all my paperwork that I keep seperate, bank statements etc.. but, I didn't need any of them. I printed out my downloaded history in the sorted format. You don't even have to worry about making any human errors such as writing things down or making your own notes. This makes it hardly any work left for your accountant either since some charge by the hour.

The only thing is you should try to remember to download your online bank statements at the end of every month or you can forget about it like I do every month since my bank stores the data for up 6 months. So twice out of the entire you would have to do some work and at the end of the year just combine everything.

If you need your daily charges, banks update their systems really quickly these days shouldn't be any problem. I don't have any issues.

Agreed. Business account also makes things simpler.
