I am considering using this site to enhance my analytics. Does anyone have any information on clicktale or any of its competition?

this thread isn't doing clicktale justice by a long shot.
if you haven't seen it, try it.

it's thoroughly badass analytics.

step-by-step video recording of everything your visitor does is a metrics junkie's wet dream.

it's a little bit evil. possibly a lot of bit evil.
but nothing has come closer to putting you inside customer's heads than clicktale.
and for that, it deserves some serious +rep.

in conclusion, see sig.

thanks,
your friendly clicktale user, lover, and affiliate

I've used it in the past and have one complaint about it. They may have improved it, but a major functionality hole IMHO is the ability to segment out which user sessions that you want to look at. For example, if you could create a segment of "all user sessions that didn't purchase AND trackingCode=Facebook" you would have something really powerful.

In my opinion, they should sell the thing to a major analytics player like Omniture and integrate the product into the rest of the analytics platform (or Omni develop something similar themselves). Discover 2 SORT OF has a "virtual focus group" as part of it's tool set, but it's not that good.

Just think about all the cool stuff you could do with a high end analytics package and a clicktale-like product. The possibilities are really endless. Maybe not so much for affiliates since often you're just passing through to a merchant, but definitely for an online retailer w/ a big site and lots of merchandising needs.

On one of my landing pages in an area that's not clickable, I found out that a large number of visitors were clicking on it.

i made that spot clickable and conversions shot through the roof.

Ding, Ding FUCKIN Ding, we have a winner.

Clicktale is the shit.

clicktale ftmfw! Used it the other day, then compared to CrazyEgg. Crazy is good, but the heatmap is no where near as detailed as Clicktale. I would definitely say if you can afford it, use it. If you cant, try out crazyegg.

You don't really need to pay for clicktale if you don't have the spare cash, just use the free version on one site at a time and study your visitors, optimize accordingly, rinse and repeat.
