So you type in a site into quantcast to look at the site's demographics and the information is pretty clear and straightforward for the most part. But one thing I don't understand is what exactly is the significance of the index. I mean, quantcast gives you a percentage of Caucasians or certain age group that make up the site's audience but how important is the index? I understand that the index tells you how much of a certain demographic you have for a particular website in comparison to other websites but how can this be useful. When setting up a campaign where I want to target certain demos, should I focus on the percentages or the index?

You shouldn't rely on one source. You need to be using many for analytical review and then base it on your ultimate decision from all of the date you gathered.

I'm guessing the index bars are proportionally weighted based on the demographics in the general population.

So 51:49 female:male, 84:8:4:4 cauc:afro:asian:latin (I don't know what they are exactly).

It can be misleading, I find. I was quantcasting one of my landers the other day. It had 11% African-American, which is WAY above average (according to quantcast). Doesn't really mean I should market it as a *black* site because I'd be neglecting the 82% caucasian audience it had!

Dunno if this helps but I just try to think about age, sex, socio-economic stuff and then *interpret* why that might be!
