How can I promote my site?

Hey guys,

Ive been working on a website for ages now and apart from couple of things on there, its pretty much completed.

My website is a video sharing website built for artists or any creative person that has a show reel. For instance, if you are an animator or director and would like to share your film to the world my website offers this services.

I have just offically launched it today and I need some feedbacks and some advice how I can promote it?

Any ideas would be great thank you!
 


tat the url on your left arm (assuming it's a .com - right if it is anything else) and then kill yourself. The news will be all over it.
 
^^ What he said. That's actually a good idea but don't burn yourself alive either or else you'll defeat the whole purpose.

Or you can just drive PPC traffic to the website.

that could lead to something like the digg effect too - 5 minutes after the story is run expect a 500 Internal Server Error. then all publicity was for nothing and he died in vain. even better
 
If you are on low budget, try web 2.0 properties, article writing, bookmarking etc...

If you have money try PPC or even PPV (CPV) is cheaper and can make some good conversion...for example sites like mediatraffic.com, directcpv.com, trafficvance.com etc...

Now buying banner spots can be good but it is kinda risky. Worth a look on those alexa high ranking sites without any ads, just give them an idea that you would pay for a little banner and they will be happy to provide you that for less then $25 a week...

Here's what you are going to do, There's a lot of ways to promote your site. One is through social media, second is through the forums, 3rd you can create an interesting blog where people would come and post their comments. For number one, You can register to facebook and post the link to your site, create interesting post that would catch the attention of your mutual friends to become popular, You can also use twitters, friendsters to advertise your site. secondly, Posting comments on the forum that would benifit the viewers and won't waste their time reading your post. Always make some interesting new threads to catch the attention of the members in the forum. And be honest for whatever information you're giving them. 3rdly, Making a blog for your site would attract surfers provided that what you have on your blog is very useful, informative, interesting, something that is new, caters the need of the visitors in all age level and you know how to respond to the comments and posts of your members and guests intelligently. You can always link your site for whatever information your blog members may need with regards to video

Wickedfire: Not the place to give away your semi-good idea to a bunch of people who can actually launch a site. I think our friend Sarah is about to meet the harsh realities of the wild wild west :)
 
1. Get two dixie cups and string them together.

2. Have a friend hold one end up into the sky.

3. Speak loudly and clearly while shouting out your url address.

Rinse. Wash. Repeat daily.

Viral, baby!

I'd suggest trying to find the right questions to ask. I think that there are a lot of people here with great insight, but you have to know what questions to ask.

Too vague and you'll get this.

There's an idiom in my country for what you're trying to achieve. "TE METISTE EN CAMISA DE ONCE VARAS". Next time you meet anyone from Colombia, ask them what that means.

I'm not trying to rain on your parade here, but MySpace Music has already beaten you, hands down. That nice is TAKEN. It's usually a very, VERY bad idea to try to force a big company out of a niche once they're there... unless you can afford twice as much as they invest in atl/btl advertising.

I'm not saying it can't happen or that you should throw your idea away, but you really need to do your research BEFORE you start working on anything. You don't have a database of artists, nobody knows of your website and, what's worse, you're up against a million dollar company. That's the truth. I'm sorry.
