Best Music to Work to?

I usually listen to Michael Jackson's hit songs while writing, and some Nirvana and Queen and Beatles... well I guess my music preferences have something to do with dead guys.

Right now I'm listening to Boyzone (as a tribute to their dead guy, Stephen Gately).

Go fuck yourself. If you don't like it, go find somewhere else to spread your hate.

I'm not randomly saying dullspace like all the other tools do in random threads.

Dullspace has some good music and the thread specifically asked what music do you listen to. I was not trying to be funny, I really do listen to dullspace's songs. Hence why I put "seriously" next to it but apparently you didn't catch on...

Lately I've been putting on Pandora.com and going with chill / ambienet type stuff during the work day. The Album Leaf, Zero 7, Massive Attack, stuff like that is good in the background while working.

Pink Floyd. ANY song (and headphones must be in to truly zone out and work).

Sorry... I just jumped on you like one of those tools do in other random threads.

Hardstyle/hardcore (mostly hardstyle).. for those who think trance if for pussies.[/url]

Haha! Love that shit, I went to the first Sydney instalment of Defqon 1 on 19/09/09, it was mad as hell, I'm considering myself to be very lucky that I didn't overdose on MDMA that day. =P

I listen to Daniel Licht a lot while working. He composed the music for the Tv serie 'Dexter'. Uberchill.

Weed leads to rap music
Adderall leads to techno
When combined it leads to no music, because I'd be playing call of duty 4 or wasting my time on these forums.

Great list, I'll check em out.

1. Tangerine Dream
2. Pink Floyd (early stuff, Ummagumma e.g. works well, but when thinking hard even Dark Side can get you side tracked)
3. Beethoven/Mozart

Nice range there ;-)

I agree words get in the way, but it depends what you're doing. If you're looking over stats or not doing anything too intensive, anything goes. But when serious work is being done and you don't want any distractions, you need to turn off the AIM (or go invisible), crank up the mood music, and make it work.

When lyrics are ok and you just want to relax and work?

Rush, Yes, Zeppelin, Marillion, Blue Oyster Cult, Floyd (any), Fleetwood Mac, etc the list goes on forever.

Those who like Floyd and Rush/Yes (any of the classic prog rock) need to give Marillion a shot (older stuff not the new).
You'll wonder how you survived so long without ever hearing them before.

Here's my little trick. I listen to the radio, and I download the full album of some of the popular artists. Then, I listen to the songs that aren't on the radio. That's where all the good music hides. Examples:

Rise Against: "Savior" (A nice upbeat Rise Against song, good for those who liked Nirvana vocals but like a little bit of no shotgun to the face)

Breaking Benjamin: "Anthem Of The Angels" (from their brand new CD "Dear Agony". If you liked "I Will Not Bow" and enjoyed "Forget It", you'll love it)

The Killers: "A Dustland Fairytale" (Nice, slow Killers track. 'Nuff said)

Blaqk Audio: "Mute" (Japanese Best Buy Bonus Track or something, for those of you who said techno or trance)

And so on.
