Prosper202 - a new milestone reached

I've spent 4 days trying to get prosper202 to work, and after reinstalling everything this morning I finally Prosper to at least show up, but with the following error:

Error establishing a database connection

This either means that the username and password information in your 202-config.php file is incorrect or we can't contact the database server at localhost. This could mean your host's database server is down.

• Are you sure you have the correct username and password?

• Are you sure that you have typed the correct hostname?
  

• Are you sure that the database server is running?
  

If you're unsure what these terms mean you should probably contact your host. If you still need help you can always visit the Prosper202 Support Forums.


Note, I double checked my database name, user and password in my cpanel mysql database along with my 202-config.php file. They are all correct and I still get this error.

Also, the Prosper202 support forums are not much good. They haven't answered an install question in weeks.

I'm not the only person with the problem, there's another posting on the Prosper202 forum with the same exact problem.

Don't know if it matters but I'm on Hostgator.

I'm getting closer, I think.

Any possible solutions are gratefully accepted.

if I recall correctly you have to download a patch for hostgator to run prosper.

Did you make sure to add the user to the database in your cpanel?

They're over 100 threads that talk about how shitty hostgator is for running prosper.

If there is a workaround you'll find it there.

This is the last post on the subject. I give up on the self hosting of Prosper202. I've spent enough time on this.

I'll use the hosted version.

Do older HostGator accounts somehow work with Prosper because I've been using Prosper on it for some time now and I've never had a problem. Never downloaded any patch either.

Dedicated hosting won't give you problems. It is only on the shared hosting packages where hostgater gives you shit.

You have to install the patch, Hostgator doesn't allow installing Propser. It's because it's shared hosting and wastes a shitton of bandwidth.
