i have a site which is built for the sole purpose of arbitrage. (just testing things for now.)

i found it very hard to find keywords with low cpc.

how do you guys usually search for keywords?
i have read a lot of guides here and there, but can't say they helped much...

where are you trying to buy traffic from? You could use the overture tool, or the adwords tool to find more related words.

i'm buying traffic from adwords at the moment. i know, it's expensive, i will switch to 7search or searchfeed once i had a grip on things.

If you are going with adwords. You will have to target longtail words and/or site target with a cpm bid.

also, look at misspellings. I haven't used adwords for arbi, but I used the above with overture with some success. 7search is much cheaper however.

what does longtail words mean? sorry, i'm not a native english speaker... i generated a long list of typos, and even all of them needs a minimum bid of $1.

btw, my first niche is diet / weight loss (not a very specific niche, i know). i thought there shouldn't be much competition, but this is crazy... i can't think of insurance, loan, etc.

Longtails are key phrases that are usually 3 or more words. So, if you're targeting weight loss, without looking, I'll bet "weight loss", "diets", "dieting", etc. are all pretty expensive. However, "weight loss exercises and diet" would be a longtail, and is probably not going to cost you as much. It won't have as many searches either, but if you have 100 longtails, that will probably equal more searches than your primary targeted terms.

Here are some other longtails and their predicted daily searches from Wordtracker:

healthy weight loss supplements 350
best weight loss products 332
south beach diet for free 300
best weight loss supplements 278
black cohash and weight loss 276
simply weight loss program 274

Those six add up to an estimated 1810 searches per day. They key phrase "weight loss" is an estimated 9120 per day, and "diet" is 2421 per day.

Overtures Bid Tool shows that the lowest bid in the top ten bids for "weight loss" is $0.76
The same tool shows that the number one bid for "healthy weight loss supplements" is $0.48.

So, there is a $0.38 difference that you can capitalize on.

Hope this helped.

That is backwards logic. Adwords is by far the hardest PPC engine to master so you should do the other ones first. If you already have adwords mastered the other ones will be cake. If you are just starting, you should be focusing elsewhere until you get a grip.

seomike, thank you. those are some great advice. i am trying those now.
aeiouy, thanks. which ppc engine do you suggest?

I started a month ago, when I first started I used adwords for a week and bombed. So I got going with 7search and searchfeed, while I get a lot more traffic from searchfeed it does not convert nearly as well as 7search.

ok, now i have applied for 7search and validated.

7search: I tried a lot of keywords (slightly over 1000 i guess) with $0.03 bid, and i got nothing for 24 hours. some are general keywords, some are longtail ones, but i guess i should get at least one click in 24 hours. what is wrong?

adwords: again, i tried a lot of keywords, and i'm at the limit (3000 or something like that), but for the last 10 hours, i got 250 impressions, and nothing else. (bid is $0.06)

what am i doing wrong?

for both 7search and adwords, i use general keywords, very long keyphrases and typos.

i really appreciate any help...

You have to check out what the top bids for your keyword are on 7search, if the top 5 bids range from 10cents to 30cents you arent going to get any traffic bidding 3 cents. Dont look where your bid is on 7search, look where it rates on the affiliate network

for most of my searches, it is "not in top 5", and for others it is just blank.
now what does that mean? (affiliate network that is)
