I got an Adwords voucher sent to me, so I thought screw it, I'll use it for a quick experiment. I'm not new to Adwords, but I'm new to making a profit on Adwords, if you get me.

So I threw up a campaign, and it's actually JUST about profitable, amazingly. But my CPC's are high, but CTR and QS are pretty decent.

My question:

If the CTR stays high and my bid is still high, will my CPC drop over time?

How long will it take to drop it's CPC's in your experience (this is a brand new account remember)?

CPM

Obey

Thanks, but that's a little cryptic for me. Sorry man!

I understand adwords are sold on a CPM basis (cos position = bid price * CTR). People just think they're paying by the click, but it's actually what makes G the most $$ per M.

So are you saying to keep my CPM as low as possible? And will the CPC's and CPM's drop over time?

Or I guess as long as my CTR improves I can push the CPC down. But what if my CTR's are constant?

I heard about some mysterious 'account quality score' but how long does that take to kick in?

Feel free to flame/dickroll etc. I'll take a few of those to learn what I can.

Thanks.

So what is your EPC?

Is it higher then your CPC?

If EPC>CPC who cares?

Yes my earnings per click is greater then my cost per click. But just about. And my cost per click is over $1.

So I'm wondering how to drop my CPC??

I believe what bb_wolfe was referring to was bidding via CPM instead of CPC. If you can get a high CTR then CPM advertising will result in a lower cost than bidding via CPC, he is suggesting that you give this method a try, adwords provides you with this option.

So I'm wondering how to drop my CPC??

jesus, someone answer this poor guy's question. lol

what is your Quality Score? the higher your quality score the lower your cpc so if you can raise your quality score (spend money over time, add relevant content to your site, make the ad relevant to your page, high ctr ads, etc) you'll pay less cpc.

or you could just lower your max cpc and see if you can sustain your position. drop it by .10 cents and see what happens, if it goes well, drop it .10 cents more if it sucks go back up.

The secret is to constantly work on your CTR and drop your bids by 10% every day or two while maintaining your position. If position drops, you need to work on your CTR more.

You're welcome.

Thank you guys, that was really helpful. I'll continue working at the CTR and try and slowly lower the bid price. Hopefully the position of the ad sticks.

As for improving QS, thanks for that. It's kinda out of my hands though as the site is not mine, I'm an affiliate. But my QS is decent too because I'm bidding on fairly specific terms (this is the first time I'm really doing this, and so far it's working nicely).

Although this is the first weekend I'm running the ads and my best CTR ads are taking a kicking on the weekend. Anyone else experience this?

Also, this is a new adwords account. Does anyone know how long it would take for my account to get assigned some sort of quality rating? Or is that happening constantly, like on a daily basis?

Ok so we got to:

Adwords ads taking a kicking in CTR on the weekend (my first w/e). My ad position is the same as the weekdays though. Is this common?

How long before my adwords account is assigned some sort of a quality rating, or does this happen continually?

I'm wondering if after x time period, my bids will drop dramatically etc. And I'm wondering how long it'll be before my account is not considered by 'the system', as new etc.

Thank you.
