right now, getting a ph.d in physics - could be changing soon though to another ph.d program
just wondering, what are/were your plans with that degree? My advice is not to go into academics or research. For my whole life, my dad was a researcher at Argonne National lab, same as you, phd in physics, and he says it became the most retarded, pointless, and corrupt practice he has ever seen.
Because of our background and where he works, we are around a lot of accomplished physicists and even within them, maybe 2% do valuable research and do it for the actual science. The rest is just a game. People publish 10 times more articles than humanly possible, just to gain rep and acknowledgement. But more importatly grant money. No one reads each others work because there is so much bullshit published daily. This leads to duplication of the same work. People ripping each others work and getting into bitch fights about it. and what's the worst is when you look back at it and realize that it has made absolutely NO fucking difference in the world. That's why my dad recently just said fuck physics and went to work in some finance company making some kind of insane mathematical models.
