Would I get in trouble with G/Youtube for this?

I want to make a site for a certain niche and a big part of it would be videos from youtube. Can I get away with embedding lots and lots of youtube videos on my site (while having 3rd party ads) or would Google send me a a cease and desist?

At most I'd say I'll have a 100 videos.

You agree not to ... use ... the Embeddable Player ... for the primary purpose of gaining advertising ... revenue


So officially, no, no you can't. However... (and IANAL...) from what I understand as long as you "cease" when/if you receive a cease&desist letter, you'll be ok.

If you just have youtube vids you'll prob get deindexed, scrape the comments too and you might last longer. ;)
 
hmm. what about downloading the youtube videos I need and rehosting them on my server. Could I do that? with or without the permissions of the video makers?

the video's are either commercials or made by users, they aren't songs or anything serious.

using the Embeddable Player to show YouTube videos on an ad-enabled blog or website, provided the primary purpose of using the Embeddable Player is not to gain advertising revenue or compete with YouTube.

This is kind of ambiguous. Way I interpret it is the main purpose of my blog would not be advertising revenue but adding value to viewers for my niche. Definitely not competing with youtube but it would still have ads though... so I guess I'm ok as long as my site is not purely youtube videos
 
There are a million sites out there with a shit ton of embedded Youtube videos. So the question is will they really notice and will they do anything about it. If they contact you and tell you to stop, then stop. But they're not going to sue you.

If you want to make it a bit more legit-looking you can just leave your own "commentary" below each video as content, which can be totally stupid randomness of the top of your head. Like "This is a video of Britney Spears. I really like Britney. I remember when I was in high school and she wore that high school uniform in the video. That was cute! But now she is more adult and her videos are more sexy. Especially this video! It is a great video with lots of drama. Please watch it and sing along! Britney is the best." blabla. Take 20 seconds to write some bullshit and throw it up there.
