Is anyone of you building a list?

I've been direct linking all these while as I m lazy to build a list. It's made me decent money. But it's only became apparent to me recently that there's alot of fluctuations in this biz - on some days i can make great profits, then the next day i'd make a loss. I can't go on like this so I'm thinking if I should build a list so even though i make a loss on the frontend, I still can make money off my backend. what do u say?

stop procrastinating over it and Just Do It.
 
I have a pretty big list that I built through PPV, I released a guide on how to promote on there to my affiliates and archived it. It's nice to have an email asset list - it can be used over and over for different campaigns.
 
If you're not building a list, you're leaving money at the table. Don't miss out on the opportunity to re-market to people that have already showed interest in a product or service.

This also means that you can eventually calculate a true average lifetime value for each person on your list which will allow you to spend money on advertising more wisely.
 
it depends on your business model. If you focus on building a VRE in a large scale, then you may want to skip it at first.. Just pick those profitable niches in the later stage and add in opt-in form.

having said that, money is really in the list...i hate repeat that but it's fact to establish a long term internet business.

Ryan whats would you consider a big list?
 
What's the best script or service to manage growing lists? Aweber/ConstantContact seem to charge large monthly fees for larger lists. Is it really needed for delivery or can you get by with a script on your server?

There's no "best" but Aweber is very good. For starting out, try MailChimp. It has an API and you can start out sending up to 500 emails for free.
 
While the size does matter its not always as important as the quality and targeting ability. I have a rather small list of (5,500) emails of blackberry storm users. Half of them are their mobile @vzw emails too and this list converts very well :)
 
If you are going to build a list, you should have valuable information/products to pass on to your list.

Building a list and nurturing it will definitely pay dividends for a long time. The key is to stay in contact with the list and create value for them.
 
i can build lists pretty easily, but ive never been able to monetize them.
Ive tried in a bunch of niches, but its never really worked
