Whenever I traveled to the US and turned the television on I was always horrified. You have the shittiest "news" in the worlds, the most god-awful chat shows and utter tripe day-time soaps imaginable. Your sports are pussified versions of real men sports invented by Brits and perfected by Aussies, and seemed designed for advert breaks with your constant stopping of watches... but holy shit.. if there is one thing Americans can do awesomely, it's create crack-like addictive television drama series. I gave up on telly years ago, but about 3 months ago I discovered 'The Wire'.

I had no clue what the hell they were talking about in Episode 1... way too much jargon... but I stuck at it and omg, the best television I have ever seen. Since then I'm addicted.

I have watched/am watching:

Band Of Brothers
Breaking Bad
The Pacific
24 Series 8
Bones (gave up... those two NOT boning just got boring)
Spartacus
Oz
Rome
I am d/l Generation Kill and The Shield.

What else do I need to watch?

House
Fringe
CSI
NCIS
Lost

Start with those because you have some catching up to do.

Thank you for the suggestion and the time to reply really... but no no no. I like stuff with blood, fucking, drugs, guns, death and hairy chests. Those are series my girlfriend watches.

Saying that... I have never heard of Fringe, so I WILL check that out. Cheers.

Step #1: check tv.com ratings, reviews and find out what's worth watching
Step #2: btjunkie
Step #3: back to work motherfucker!

P.S. I didn't see Weeds on your list. That one is also worth watching. At least the first couple of seasons.

Fringe isn't gona be close to what you just described in the paragraph above, its more akin to X-files and Warehouse 13, than it is to Sappranos.

It's Sci Fi but it's drama... Battlestar Galactica and the spin off Caprica.

Lost
Supernatural
all the Law and Orders
V

I could go on. Yeah they are mostly sci fi but that doesn't mean they aren't dramas as well.

I watched the Lonesome Dove western series on video, and was hooked. There were several consecutive series: Streets of Laredo, Comanche Moon and Dead Man's Walk. All were good, but none as good as the first series.

Some of the best TV drama can be found on public television, and those are usually produced by the Brits.

House is kind of fun (when his annoying colleagues aren't hogging the airtime).

One of the best US dramatic series was cable's Angels in America.

Part of the reason why you see so much poor quality TV like game shows, chat and "reality" shows is because they're cheaper to produce than scripted shows. These are tough times for TV writers.
