Can a network retroactively change payout?

cause this is what happened to one of mine (dating). i am on their ppc thing where you get x amount of cents per click depending on your ratio for clicks/signups. well a bit into the pay period they changed it so that instead of having a 1:2 ratio for x payout you now need < 1:2. my ratio was about 1:2.38 so it rounded to 1:2 but now it says it is 1:3 and all monies from the entire pay period were lowered to almost 1/2 of what they were before.
 


Sounds like an adult dating company like Adult Friend Finder. They do stuff like that. Your lead price is tied to your enrollments. And yes they can do anything they want. It's up to you to read the contract and negotiate as such.

What network would that be? Implementing retroactive payout changes is not considered a good benefit to an affiliate who worked with a set figure payout in mind.
 
If you havent figured out yet networks can do whatever they want. Some of them are decent and some of them will steal from you and most are in the middle.

It's easy to make retro pay changes at Neverblue, but I can only think of times when we would make a retro increase. For example, you call your AM on Saturday and they say they'll give you an increase effective immediately. If they are out that day then they have to do the increase on Sunday\Monday but effective as of Saturday.

I agree that it's ridiculous if a network does a retroactive pay decrease for no reason.

No, it's not ridiculous and has a lot to do with quality in continuity programs like AFF (as Smax mentioned) and any sort of lead generation where quality is extremely important and varies by promotion method. it's not shady/ridiculous, it's just business and the advertisers could care less if you disagree because they have to make money.. if they are making 0 return from a publishers poor-performing quality, they aren't going to continue the relationship unless they decrease payout.. it's dumb for them to decrease payout for no reason because they have no idea what type of return the pub/affiliate is making and they would be stupid to risk the traffic for the "extra 25%"
 
well i was getting paid maybe 60% more through the ppc and discussed with my am that they probably dont like that my ratio is so low and she said no thats fine thats good for you. however with the terms change i now get paid less than if i just got paid for the sales only. in the stats you can see how many people pay and i currently get about 2x what the minimum required is. i will just switch to pps but they changed it like 5 days into the pay period so all the clicks i sent to the per click link that will sign up after i switch my traffic to per sale will not be paid.

Fuck that.
They should be upfront with what it takes to make money with them, not retroactivly just say "fuck you, we didnt make enough money with what we bought from you, we won't pay". Lots of systems can deal with signup ratios, bonus for good traffic etc. If you are really looking for PPA dont call it PPV and fuck ppl over when your campaign dont work out. They have choosen to buy traffic with a method that don't work with their business. Their misstake.

Hah, don't we wish affiliates could do that -- "Sorry, campaign didn't profit.. Going to pay you half the CPM we agreed to." Time to start moving up the hierarchy boys.
 
I think that is complete BS. I had someone do this to me a few years ago, ended up owning me personally almost $200k, a "major" lead gen network. It was "oh, we put the wrong price in for the month..."

Something like that is an error on the networks side and they should grow some balls and take responsibility and move forward. No reason an affiliate should be damaged for that.

That sounds very shady to me!! There are certain aspects of this industry that are very sketchy and unreliable, and it's a damn shame that it's so easy for people to get away with stuff like that. Hopefully one day, finding a reputable network will be the norm in affiliate marketing, and not the exception.
