How to Register .de domain

From what I understand a "local presence" is required to register a .de domain.

Local Presence required

The Registrant or the person named as the Administrative Contact person for a .DE domain must reside in Germany. The Registry will validate this requirement at the time off registration application and if not fulfilled, the registration will fail.

Is there any way around this?

Is there any way around this?

correct - either Owner-C or Admin-C. Some providers offer a special service for foreign customers, but it's rather unlikely, as the admin-c is also responsible if a legal conflict should occur, so the provider may be sued for his customers domain/content violating any rights.

@steve; right. but in reality, the law enforcement agents will just grab your domicile information from the ISPs database and then attempt to find you personally. the domain name is gone, though.

another risk, on the same line... technically, according to many eu laws, the domain name is not actually yours anymore. your registrar becomes the full legal owner, under which you operate as client in trust. after your first years's paid term expires, your registrar is not obligated under any terms to Renew it again under your trust. they are free to sell, trade, auction or even Use the domain for themselves, since contractually they are the owners.

90% of registrars will work under such trust without any issues. though it happens, unfortunately more often than one would hope........... that some don't.
