No. I run both, but they are not related.

As long as you are a low volume user, you'll be fine. However, if you plan on starting off with thousands of clicks a day, just get a VPS, you'll be glad you did. Remember, Prosper202 on a shared host is for low volume only, no matter where you host your site.

Wordpress will work fine?
Of course it will. And with Softaculous you can truly install it with a single click... but for the love of God, man, use a caching plugin. Who raised you?

in seriousness for a second, zenssh.com actually convinced to remove a control panel from one of my vps boxes yesterday, leading to much immediately improved speed. The vps was my most minimal one and it definitely benefited.

sub I'm a little confused though, i thought ionvz was your more premium offering, so its interesting to see shared hosting, especially this incredibly cheap.

The shared hosting is offered on the same i7 920 server, and each node is capped at 50 users, so premium in the sense that we don't even oversell the resources on shared hosting (in fact its undersold for the RAM and CPU allowance provided to it). And we of course still offer VPS packages.

As for the why, he's been getting a crapload of people asking for it. You'd be surprised how well it performs on an i7 920 while keeping it down to 50 clients per node (as opposed to several hundreds if not thousands like others do).

Btw you can still do cpanel or plesk on your own VPS if you want to handle your own license, but I'm glad you saw the light :D

what exactly are you referring to? how many "addon" domains can i add to my account? what's the difference between an addon domain and a "true hosting" domain ?

In Cpanel the domain you sign up with is your primary domain, from there any additional domains are created as addon domains which usually reside as a subfolder under the primary domain's public_html, this can of course cause some issues with mod_rewrite but also makes it very problematic if you wish to remove the primary domain and make one of the other ones your primary (such as the campaign didn't go well, or it expired etc).

In directadmin every domain has it's own folder under /home/user-name/domains/ , as a result any of the domain can be made the default (useful if you later add a domain that needs an SSL certificate, or if you're running WPMU and need that to be the primary to accept wildcard subdomains). As a result every domain has it's own public_html and private_html instead of sharing the primary's like you'd see in Cpanel.

I'll discuss it with Eric when he gets back. But the reason of course for the limitation is mainly because when it came to ZenSix, he once had a client who immediately setup shop with over 500 domains for the single account, which of course wreaks hell against the named process (bind/nameserver). Was there a particular increment you were thinking of? I know we already offer additional pricing for extra storage and bandwidth, so adding an extra 10 domains might be feasible as well, shall let you know.

Oh come on, this is grasping at straws at BEST. There's no reason your "primary domain" has to exist or work in any way in cPanel. You can set up wildcard subdomains, SSL, etc. on any domain, not just a primary one...

Nice :) I wish more people would try it out, you totally get more bang for your buck. People have been asking me about zenssh for a while now (when I'm going to post more)... hopefully I can get around to it in the next few weeks. I'd like to make it at least a weekly thing.

As for offering shared hosting, I've had a ton of people wanting it for the past six months (since I pretty much stopped all together). And since the conversion rate (and people looking for shared hosting) is much higher for shared than it is VPS hosting, I decided to base the IonVZ site around it. Most people who want a VPS ask me questions directly before signing up, so there wasn't a huge reason to make it the focus of the site.

I wrote what's on the site and I wouldn't really say it's grasping at straws. DirectAdmin will allow you to create/delete any or all of your domains from within the account, giving each domain a separate "panel". cPanel on the other hand, well, once you've setup an account under "yourdomain.com" it's a pain in the ass if you ever want that specific account to be anything other than "yourdomain.com". In short, DirectAdmin organizes domains in a much more logical way, whereas cPanel is a jumbled fucking mess.

on one of my more recent vms i went from plesk to cpanel (only option with that host) and the way cpanel does it is fucking retarded.

2) Could you clarify why you have a problem with proxy sites? I like to have centralized CMS that serves content through various shared hosts on different IPs

Sure, we could work something out. If you just need 1 or 2 domains, it wouldn't be a problem. If you need a lot, we can do a small fee.

By proxy, I mean something like Hide My Ass! Free Proxy and Privacy Tools - Surf The Web Anonymously - No public (or private for that matter) script allowing people to browse the Internet via our server IP. This is not allowed by our datacenter.

This is for prosper202 only. If you are doing more than 1k clicks a day, you shouldn't be on shared hosting in the first place. Prosper is really resource heavy, especially when running reports. In short, if your account causes a CPU/RAM load for a long period of time, we'll let you know. I've installed prosper a million times over the past year and helped a lot of people scale to bigger plans and servers. In my mind it's best to just start with a dedicated server, but not everyone can afford that... So in terms of what kind of load handles what kind of hosting, I see it like this:

0-1.5k clicks - shared works
1.5-2.5k clicks - get a vps
2.5k+ clicks - why are you being cheap with something that makes you money? Get a dedicated server already.

No large amounts of email are allowed at all. Again, this is a datacenter thing. They do not allow mailers. Our entire ToS can be found here: ionvz.com - Terms of Service

As far as prosper scaling, I think the only real bottleneck would be reports, just accepting a few thousands of clicks a day should not a big drain... But do you have memcache installed?

No memcache installed. On a shared server memcache is going to push a single user over their alloted resources immediately and if you have just 10 people using prosper on the server, well, you'd need a hell of a lot of RAM. Again, it'd be nice, but if you're already at the point where you need memcache, you should be on a vps at minimum.
